More adventurous chicken salads include Kickin Kay Lynne, which has buffalo sauce, ranch dressing, bacon, shredded Cheddar cheese, and jalapeños. Thats exactly what Chicken Salad Chick restaurant did on September 22, when it opened its first franchise location in the Triangle at Carys Waverly Place. Social media had been buzzing for months prior to the debut of the Alabama-based fast-casual concept with a mission to spread joy, enrich lives and serve others.
What started in founder Stacy Browns home kitchen has spread to more than 170 Chicken Salad Chick locations in multiple states. Now people in and around Cary can get their fill of traditional, fruity and savory chicken salad varieties made fresh daily on site.

Chicken salad, that creamy staple of finger sandwiches and corporate lunch platters, is stepping out like a Southern debutante onto the First Coast dining scene.
Chicken Salad Chick, an Alabama-based fast-casual chain founded by a stay-at-home mom, expanded in June to the Publix-anchored Reedy Branch Commons shopping center at Baymeadows Road and the I-295 East Beltway. The franchise is Chick’s first area location – one of more than 30 in six states – although the franchise owner plans another handful here.
From the dining room’s alternating green-and-white-striped color scheme, faux windows and crown molding accents, to menu item names like Dixie Chick and Olivia’s Old South, the chain’s Southern brand is large and in charge. It’s not a stretch to imagine the cast of “Designing Women” filming a reunion show here.
Beyond the branding, how does a restaurant devoted to one item find a mass appeal? Serve that item 15 different ways, not unlike the wing houses that keep their chicken on the bone. During Piper and Olivias Spring Break 2019 visit we roasted 10 lbs. of legs and thighs to have during the week. Olivia always wants HER chicken, i.e. rotisserie chicken from HEB. Bake for 20 minutes, or until bubbly.
