How To Make Fruit Salad For Kids

How to make creamy salad dressing with greek yogurt – Ranch & Caesar Dressing recipes

To make fruit salad for kids, its most important to:

  • use healthy ingredients that are also kid-friendly and
  • use fruits that kids enjoy eating.

Yogurt is is healthy for kids, and makes a nice dressing on the fruit.

This kid-friendly recipe also uses familiar fruits that kids often already love. Moreover, I cut the fruit so its easier for little mouths to pick up on a spoon and eat. Other fruits like pomegranate seeds might be more difficult for small children.

For kids, make sure to cut the grapes in half. I would even recommend cutting grapes into quarters for kids under four.

How To Make A Greek Wedge Salad

I start with a crispy head of iceberg lettuce. Sometimes Iceberg lettuce gets a bad rap. I, for one, am a big fan. It keeps well in the fridge and its incredibly versatile. So for this, I cut in half and carefully remove the core. You want to make sure your wedges dont fall apart. I rinse well and leave on an absorbent towel to drain and dry. While that is drying, time to make the dressing. You can also skip this part and use store bought Greek dressing. I recommend a creamy Greek dressing for this salad.

What Makes The Panera Greek Salad The Perfect Greek Salad

Greek salads are tasty and satisfying with salty feta, tangy tomatoes, acid purple onions, and fruity kalamata olives over a bed of dressed lettuce. A large Greek salad can make a wonderful main course, while a smaller portion is a versatile side salad.

The version of Greek salad that Panera Bread serves adds pepperoncini and parmesan cheese for an even more complex flavor.

Yes, this Greek yogurt ranch dressing is naturally gluten-free! Just be careful that the Greek yogurt and buttermilk you use dont have any additives that might contain gluten.

To make this dressing vegan, youll need to sub out the Greek yogurt and buttermilk. If you dont want to mess around with substitutions, Id recommend using my delicious coconut milk ranch dressing or cashew ranch dressing. Yum!

If you want to substitute, a great vegan swap for Greek yogurt is mashed avocado! You can sub it out in a 1:1 ratio for the yogurt in the recipe. You can also use soy yogurt or other vegan yogurt alternatives.

To switch out the buttermilk, you can mix one tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar with any plant-based milk, so it comes up to half a cup. Allow it to sitand curdlefor 10-15 minutes after mixing.

Made With Greek Yogurt

Greek Yogurt Ranch Dressing

What I love most about this creamy balsamic dressing is that its made with Greek yogurt, which makes it perfectly thick, creamy, and smooth. Theres no mayo or sour cream here, so its much healthier and better for you.

The great thing about Greek yogurt is that it has a very neutral taste, so it preserves the sweet and tangy taste of the balsamic vinegar. Plus, Greek yogurt gives the dressing a smooth and silky consistency.

Greek yogurt also helps to balance out the natural vinegar-y taste of the balsamic vinegar. This creamy balsamic dressing tastes light and refreshing!

How To Make The Fruit Salad Yogurt Dressing

Using yogurt creates a light, creamy dressing that ties your fruit salad together. I find this dressing compliments the fruit much better than the overly sweet and syrupy dressings used in some conventional fruit salads.

I love yogurt because it doesnt overpower the flavor of your fruit or make it seem sticky.

This recipe has a lot of room for customization, but I would really stick with regular, plain yogurt for the dressing.

Although the flavor of Greek yogurt works, I find the texture a bit too thick. Similarly, fruit yogurt would probably taste okay, but the color might not look as nice.

Of course, you can adjust the sweetness by using more or less honey.

Greek Yogurt Green Goddess Salad Dressing

Dress up your salads with fresh and herbaceous Greek Yogurt Green Goddess Salad Dressing! Fresh herbs blend with greek yogurt, a little mayo, lemon juice and garlic for a lighter take on the beloved classic.

    First things first

    What is Green Goddess Dressing?

Aptly named for its vibrant green color, this salad dates back to the Palace Hotel in 1923 and is a creamy dressing consisting of fresh herbs, mayonnaise and usually contains anchovies.

While I cant say Ive had authentic green goddess dressing, I do enjoy Panera Breads green goddess dressing and their cobb salad. So much in fact that I tried to copy their dressing. Of course they dont just hand recipes over, so I used some herbs I have growing in my garden, said a prayer and whipped this deliciously fresh dressing up in minutes.

When you arrive to the bottom of this post, youll see I did my best to copy their salad too.

What Is In A Greek Yogurt Dressing Recipe

Greek Yogurt Dressing | easy healthy salad dressing

This plain yogurt salad dressing recipe is really a creamy vinaigrette as it contains yogurt, lemon juice, extra virgin olive oil, minced garlic, fresh herb of your choice, and salt and pepper.

When it comes to yogurt, I am a big fan of Stonyfield Organics Greek yogurt as it is nice and thick. However, you can certainly make this recipe with plain yogurt as well. If you are calorie conscious and prefer the low-fat version of this yogurt-based dressing, feel free to swap whole milk yogurt with fat-free plain yogurt.

My favorite fresh herb to use is dill as I find that when it is mixed in with yogurt, it pairs so well with the rest of the ingredients. You can drizzle it on salad greens or use it as a dipping sauce for summer vegetables as I did in this baked zucchini fritters recipe or mixed in with cucumbers to make tzatziki sauce.

However, you can change it up by using different kinds of herbs. I also love fresh Italian parsley, mainly when I am serving it with Turkish meatballs.

So What Is A Wedge Salad Anyway

The Classic Wedge Salad made its debut somewhere around 1916 in Marion Harris Neils book Salads, Sandwiches and Chafing Dish Recipes as the first known recipe for the ubiquitous, steak house salad. Shortly after that, it began to show up on restaurant menus. In the 1950s, blue cheese crumbles and bacon, a sign of the times, were added to the salad which we still see on menus today. If you ask me, this is one of the best starters to a great steak dinner, next to a Martini. The wedge is my husbands favorite iceberg lettuce salad, hands down. It was only natural to create a Greek version with its own creamy, Yogurt Dill Dressing to tie it all together.

How Do You Cut Strawberries For Fruit Salad

I always start by cutting off the hull of the strawberry. Next, I look at the size of the strawberry. If the strawberry is small, I simply cut it in half. In contrast, I cut larger strawberries into quarters.

The goal is to cut the strawberries to match the size of the clementine slices.

TIP: If you really want to make the colors pop, you can cut off the white parts in the strawberry core so your fruit salad is more vibrant.

What Do I Need To Make This Greek Yogurt Ranch Dressing

Making your own salad dressing isnt tough. In fact, the only thing you need to make it is a wide-mouth mason jar with a tight-fitting lid. You just add all your ingredients to the jar, tighten your lid, and shake it like crazy! Toss, shake, and go! If you prefer a smoother dressing, you can always use a blender or a food processor. But you defiantly dont need one.

    A Better Raw Broccoli

I know some people have a hard no! stance on raw broccoli. Im pro raw broccoli in salads as long as its had time to marinate and soften slightly. Its not so much the stems that bothers me I actually like the crisp freshness of the stems. Its the florets. Theyre just kind of dry and crumbly when raw.

    Solution:

    a) give the salad time to marinate in the creamy lemon dressing which slightly tenderises the broccoli. Both the acid and the oil in the dressing helps here and

    b) slicing the florets thickly rather than leaving them whole. More surface area = better marinating effect to take the hard raw edge off the broccoli.

What Are The Best Fruits For This Healthy Fruit Salad Recipe

Its important to choose fruits with flavors that compliment each other. In other words, you dont want to mix too many fruits with overpowering flavors. The fruits I like to use in this recipe are:

    • Mandarin oranges

I love using these fruits because they taste great together, they provide just the right amount of crunch and juiciness, and the colors are beautiful together.

    Tips For Making The Ranch

    • The recipe calls for using either fresh or dried herbs, making it a great year-round recipe. You can use whatever you have. Since my garden is going so well this year, I used fresh herbs in this version. It packs a lot of flavors too. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
    • If you have picky kids this recipe is the perfect addition to a salad or veggie plate. Theyll never know you made the swap.
    • The type of greek yogurt you pick for this salad dressing will determine the calorie count and creaminess. Higher fat yogurt will be creamier but lower fat will have fewer calories.
    • The base for this healthy dressing is basically just Greek yogurt and milk. The milk thins it out a bit and you can adjust the amount of milk you put in to adapt for what you are using it for. Want a thinner salad dressing? Use more milk! Want a thicker ranch dip? Use less! Either way, you make it, its delicious!

How To Make Creamy Yogurt Salad Dressing

Unlike many other vinaigrettes and salad dressings, theres no oil in this one, so no need to worry about emulsifying the dressing . Just combine all of the ingredients in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. If you have animmersion blender, use that to blend everything together in a jar or small bowl.

As noted above, the thickness of the dressing will change depending on the type of yogurt you use. If using a thick type of yogurt, you may need to add a tiny bit of water to thin the dressing out.

The most important step is to taste the finished dressing and adjust to your preferences. Depending on the type of herbs you use, you may want to alter the flavors to add some sweetness from more honey or more sour flavor from lemon juice.
