Maple Grove Farms Raspberry Vinaigrette

4 Low Fat Salad Dressings | Weight Loss Recipes | Joanna Soh

This raspberry vinaigrette from Maple Grove Farms is free from sugar, but is sweet and delicious and full of great flavor!

The vinaigrette is sugar-free but sweetened with Splenda, so you dont miss out on the sweetness balanced with the tartness of raspberry flavor.

Not only is this a great option for salads, but it can be used on pasta salads, as a marinade, as a basting sauce, and to top different sides.

There are no preservatives or artificial ingredients used in the vinaigrette, and it is just as nature intended, simple but flavorful and wonderful on a range of salads.

You can enjoy all the flavors of a usual raspberry vinaigrette, but much healthier, and much more suited to your diet. It is definitely something that you need to keep in your pantry for when a salad is on the menu.

How Long Can You Store Them

These homemade salad dressing will last for two months in the refrigerator. That means you can always have a few on hand. Just as you would buy a few varieties at the store, make several flavors and rotate to keep your salads fresh.

If you use just oil and vinegar in your dressing, it will be shelf stable. The vinegar is acidic enough to keep it fresh. However, if there are any fresh ingredients like garlic, dairy products or fresh herbs, it should be refrigerated.

Support Your Weight Loss Goals In A Healthy Way By Choosing Salad Dressings That Limit Calories Added Sugar And Sodium

Salads make a healthy foundation for any diet, but its all too easy to make a bowl of greens sugar- and salt-laden with the wrong toppings. At the same time, to support this healthy meal habit, you want choices that tantalize your taste buds, says Judy Caplan, RD, author of GoBeFull: Eight Keys to Healthy Living, who is in private practice in Vienna, Virginia.

Although its always the best option to whip up healthy salad dressings at home from vinegar, herbs, and a healthy oil, it is also easy enough to find a healthy, tasty store-bought kind if you read the nutritional facts label carefully.

First off, lets talk fat. Its not the enemy! The truth is, the body needs fat to function, and there are several fats used in the best salad dressings that provide amazing health benefits, including:

Monounsaturated Fatty Acids These are found in olive, canola, and peanut oil, as well as in avocados and most nuts, according to the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health.

Polyunsaturated Fats These are found in other plant-based oils, like safflower, corn, sunflower, soybean, sesame, and cottonseed oils, notes Harvard. Omega-3 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fats that are necessary for proper cell function, according to the National Institutes of Health .

Heres what else to keep in mind:

Calories Aim for fewer than 45 calories per tablespoon , suggests Caplan, that for the right kind of fat, you can go a bit above this threshold.

Low Carb Salad Dressings

What makes a good balsamic vinaigrette? Well, it turns out, the perfect version of this popular salad dressing is truly a wonder of cooking technique, high-quality ingredients from around the world, and science coalescing.

Optimally, tart balsamic vinegar from Italy, tangy mustard from Dijon, olive oil from the first cold press, and various spices meld together in an emulsion created by the marriage of oil, water, and acid. While you may crave a more acidic balsamic vinaigrette, others may prefer a bit more sweetness from a touch of honeyreally, it’s a matter of taste.

But as far as nutrition goes, you should look for these four things when choosing a healthy salad dressing:

  • Less than 250 milligrams of sodium
  • Less than 3 grams of added sugar
  • No artificial colors or preservatives
  • Few to no vegetable oils

How To Store Homemade Salad Dressing

OIL FREE VEGAN CREAMY ITALIAN DRESSING » sugar free, oil free, plant based salad dressing!

I recommend storing your homemade dressing in a glass container in the refrigerator. I like to use mason jars! One thing to note: homemade dressings made with olive oil tend to harden and separate when stored in the fridge. This is completely normal! Take the dressing out of the fridge about 20 minutes before using so it can come to room temperature and then give it a quick shake to recombine the ingredients.
