Zesty Keto Italian Dressing

Homemade Ranch Dressing Recipe Low Carb Keto Salad Dressing | Saucy Sunday

This is essentially our honey vinaigrette dressing with extra zest instead of stevia. All you need is an Italian spice mix or the combination of herbs used in the recipe to make this quick and easy Italian dressing.

You can also try making a creamy version by replacing the oil with mayo and using enough vinegar to get it to the right viscosity. Keep the seasonings the same.

Try having the oil-based dressing or the creamy Italian variation on a keto cobb salad to give it an extra punch of flavor and fat.

Can You Have Buttermilk On Keto

Regular ranch dressing is made with buttermilk. Buttermilk is only suitable for keto diet in very small amounts. One cup of buttermilk has 12g of net carbs. The intake of carbs on a keto diet is limited between 20g 40g of carbs per day. So even though one cup of buttermilk can be suitable on a keto diet most people avoid it because it has high levels of sugar and wouldnt want to use their carb intake for the day in the form of buttermilk.

Support Your Weight Loss Goals In A Healthy Way By Choosing Salad Dressings That Limit Calories Added Sugar And Sodium

Salads make a healthy foundation for any diet, but its all too easy to make a bowl of greens sugar- and salt-laden with the wrong toppings. At the same time, to support this healthy meal habit, you want choices that tantalize your taste buds, says Judy Caplan, RD, author of GoBeFull: Eight Keys to Healthy Living, who is in private practice in Vienna, Virginia.

Although its always the best option to whip up healthy salad dressings at home from vinegar, herbs, and a healthy oil, it is also easy enough to find a healthy, tasty store-bought kind if you read the nutritional facts label carefully.

First off, lets talk fat. Its not the enemy! The truth is, the body needs fat to function, and there are several fats used in the best salad dressings that provide amazing health benefits, including:

Monounsaturated Fatty Acids These are found in olive, canola, and peanut oil, as well as in avocados and most nuts, according to the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health.

Polyunsaturated Fats These are found in other plant-based oils, like safflower, corn, sunflower, soybean, sesame, and cottonseed oils, notes Harvard. Omega-3 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fats that are necessary for proper cell function, according to the National Institutes of Health .

Heres what else to keep in mind:

Calories Aim for fewer than 45 calories per tablespoon , suggests Caplan, that for the right kind of fat, you can go a bit above this threshold.

Can You Eat Kraft Ranch Dressing On The Keto Diet

If we take a look at the table above that contains the nutritional information of a few types of Kraft ranch dressings, we can see that most of them have 2 grams of net carbs per serving , with the exception of Kraft Cucumber Ranch Dressing, which has 3 grams per serving.

While that may seem like there are not many carbs in them, keep in mind that it is in just one serving of the product. Typically a 16 oz. bottle of ranch dressing contains about 16 servings of product.

If you look into the ingredients, the ranch dressings contain sugar, artificial colors and artificial flavors, soybean oil, modified food starch and calcium disodium EDTA as a preservative. And all those ingredients are not ketogenic and are avoided on the strict keto diet.

Overall, the Kraft Ranch Dressings are low in carbs, but they are highly processed and contain many non-ketogenic ingredients, so if you are following a strict keto diet, you should avoid these products.

However, if you are not on a strict keto diet and you do not mind processed foods or you are looking for foods that just fit your daily carbs, then Kraft Ranch Dressing is something you can consume.

Were hoping for Kraft brand to release a keto-friendly line of products in the future.

May Help Increase Veggie Intake

Current dietary guidelines recommend that those who consume 2000 calories per day should eat 2.5 cups of vegetables every day. But USDA surveys have found that the average American only consumes about 1.4 cups of vegetables per day.

Putting a dip or salad dressing on veggies is one way to make them more palatable. While ranch dressing is not the most nutritious choice, it is the most popular topping for greens and other veggies. For some finicky eaters, it may help them reach their recommended intake of vegetables.

Are Salad Dressings Bad For You

It depends. Not all salad dressings are created equal. A lot of dressings that are contain corn syrup as their main ingredient. Believe it or not, some popular salad dressings in stores are even worse for you than chocolate syrup!

Unfortunately, most store-bought salad dressings are made with unhealthy, inflammatory seed oils and are full of artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives. Its important to always read the labels on any product that youre going to consume. Making your own is the safest option!

Types Of Lettuces To Try

Below is a graphic showing all the different kinds of lettuces and greens you can try. My go to is romaine lettuce but some of my other favorite as are butter lettuce, spinach, leaf lettuce and arugula.

Arugula and watercress have a peppery taste that I love but its hard to find around me. However Aldis Artisan Lettuces usually have leaf lettuce and sometimes butter lettuce.

So if you need a change of pace from Romaine or Iceberg give one of these a try or grow them yourself!

Salad Dressing: My Favorite Store Bought Sugar

I remember being warned about salad dressing back in my very early dieting days. You can ruin a healthy salad with the wrong salad dressing. And dont forget dips, marinades and more. So today Im going to talk about what I look for in a salad dressing and go over some of my favorites.

But before we begin, remember to get your free copy of my new Emotional Eating Cure. My old habits with salad dressing

I used to look specifically for low-fat dressings. As long as there wasnt fat, I considered it healthy. But there is a big problem with this. Most of these low-fat dressings are overflowing with sugar.

What I didnt get back then is sugar is super inflammatory. And its in everything. So the more I can cut it out of my salad dressing, the better Im being to my body and my health.

I dont miss the sugar

When I transitioned from low-fat, high-sugar salad dressings, I just felt better. And my salads tasted fresher and less processed. And I felt my salads were more satisfying when they contained some fat.

Sweet Keto Salad Dressing Ingredients

You only need four ingredients to whip up this healthy, sugar free salad dressing!

  • Extra Light Olive Oil
  • Low Carb Sweetener of your choice

Thats it.

Sometimes Ill add a little salt and pepper.

Other times I mix in some poppy seeds.

While I usually recommend the rich flavor of extra virgin olive oil, thats not the best option for this light salad dressing.

This salad dressing is more about highlighting the flavors of the salad ingredients.

So I opt for extra light olive oil instead.

You could also use avocado oil or grapeseed oil.

There are so many different kinds of vinegars available now, but apple cider vinegar is really the best one for this sweet low carb dressing.

It adds a little bit of a fruity flavor.

I prefer using THM Gentle Sweet when I mix up this fast salad dressing.

Why?

Because Gentle Sweet is already powdered which means it dissolves perfectly in the dressing with no grittiness.

If you dont have that sweetener on hand, or if you prefer using sugar, you can use our Sweetener Conversion Tables to easily figure out the right amount to use.

Simply add all the ingredients to a jar , close the top and shake it up!

Thats it.

I usually make a double batch of the recipe because it stores so well.

Just store it at room temperature for up to 2 months.

Now youre ready to dress all your salads that have fruit on top!

You could even make your very own Katie Salad.

Keto Blue Cheese Dressing

Just like ranch dressing, storebought blue cheese dressing isnt carb-free. Most brands incorporate buttermilk, which is high in sugar and carbs.

The good news is that its easy to make keto-friendly blue cheese dressing with no added carbs or sugar!

A mixture of mayonnaise and sour cream is a great way to capture that tangy zip of buttermilk without the buttermilk.

With plenty of crumbly and funky blue cheese, this blue cheese dressing is even better than the storebought brands!

It goes great on a simple salad, or use it as a dip for fresh veggies or buffalo chicken wings.

Ways To Use Homemade Ranch Dressing

This keto ranch dressing also works well as a low carb dip for veggies. Fresh ones are always good, but its also delicious with fried zucchini and squash.

You can simply adjust the amount of unsweetened almond milk to adjust the thickness, as needed. I like to make it a little thicker for a dip, or thinner for a dressing.

Aside from salads and vegetables, this dressing is amazing to use in recipes. Thats actually how I remembered to post it. It was because I incorporated it in a keto casserole recipe that I have coming up.

Stay tuned for a low carb chicken bacon ranch casserole coming up later this week . In the meantime, you cant go wrong with this low carb keto ranch dressing in a big ole salad .

I made this in a rush after realizing the only Ranch dressing I had in the fridge was store bought. I wanted less carbs per serving plus better ingredients so I quickly made this. I had to make a couple of tweaks. I didn’t have any dijon mustard so I substituted it with 1/4 tsp of dry mustard. Instead of water, I used a splash of unsweetened vanilla almond milk to thin it out some. This was mainly because I confused this recipe with another I’d seen on the internet. It worked out fine though and tastes awesome! This recipe is very easy to make and can be served immediately if your mayo has already been refrigerated. I loved it! Thank you!!
