Why I Love This Recipe

You know those recipes that take you back to a simpler time? This classic tuna salad recipe is definitely one of those. As soon as I take a bite, Im immediately transported back to my Moms kitchen table. Its creamy, crunchy, filling, and healthy, so I feel good about feeding it to my kids, too.

This classic tuna salad is also lightening quick to throw together! Its ready in minutes and always handy to have when hunger strikes. This recipe is one where you probably already have everything on hand. Simple ingredients come together to create a delicious meal that is much more than the sum of its parts. The fact that it is something that both kids and adults like just adds to the magic, if you ask me!

Throughout the years my Mom has made her tuna egg salad a bit healthier by swapping in some yogurt for mayonnaise. This recipe still has a *bit* of mayo because who doesnt love that creamy and nostalgic flavor but the tangy yogurt, mustard, and lemon pepper also really shine through. Celery adds crunch, dill pickles add a briny, herby kick and chopped onions give a nice bite.

Prep the ingredients. Slice your celery, chop your onion and peppers. Grate your carrots. Open and drain your cans of tuna. Place them all in one big mixing bowl.

Make the dressing. Whisk the olive oil, lemon juice, Dijon, herbs and salt in a small bowl or mason jar.

Mix the salad. Pour the dressing into the mixing bowl and mix with a fork until the salad is combined. Adjust the seasoning to your liking with salt and pepper.

How To Make Tuna Stuffed Avocados

One of the things I love about this recipe is how easy it is to make.

Just add the tuna, mayonnaise, celery, onion, herbs, Dijon mustard, salt and pepper to a small mixing bowl. Use a fork to break up the tuna and thoroughly mix all of the ingredients together.

Then use a large knife to cut your avocados in half and remove the seed. Add a few dollops of tuna salad onto each avocado half and thats it so easy. To eat the tuna stuffed avocados, just use a spoon or fork to scoop out a bite of the tuna salad with a chuck of avocado. Its creamy, savory, herby and slightly crunchy from the celery and onion. Totally delicious.

I decided to use fresh tuna for these little cakes instead of canned. It gives them a taste of the sea.

Fish cakes in general can fall apart, especially when turning them over. Here are some tips to avoid this. Make sure your skillet is very hot, but on a medium heat. Use a wide spatula when transferring the cakes to the skillet. Once in the skillet, do not move the cakes until a crust forms on the bottom of the cakes. Turn them over, using a wide spatula underneath the cakes and another spatula on top to help.

A salad of corn mixed with pickled onions completes this quick and flavorful meal.

Helpful Hints:

You can use two 3.5-ounce cans of albacore tuna packed in water instead of fresh tuna.

Fresh tuna can be coarsely chopped in a food processor instead of by hand. Try not to overprocess.

A quick way to defrost corn is to place the kernels in a colander and run warm tap water over them.

This French Tuna Salad Sandwich is like the best of two worlds a hearty sandwich world with a Nicoise salad world. Its amazing, and its such a pleasant and unique upgrade to a typical tuna sandwich.

This recipe calls for oil packed tuna, fresh herbs, bell peppers, red onion, olive tapenade, and vinaigrette all stuffed inside a hearty, crusty bread. The key is to let the sandwich sit overnight, so the flavors have time to meld together AND so the crusty bread can soak up some of the vinaigrette.

Red onion – Shallots or scallions are also good options for this tuna salad.

Celery – I love the crunchy texture of celery in tuna salad but you can leave it out if you’re not a fan.

Dill pickles – Some finely chopped dill pickles will add both flavor and texture to the salad.

Yogurt – Use a full-fat, thick Greek-style yogurt and feel free to add more than indicated in the recipe card if you’d like the salad creamier. Regular yogurt is a bit too watery for this salad.

Tuna Pasta Salad Recipe – No Mayo Super Easy

Time: it takes around 10 minutes to prepare the Healthy Mediterranean Tuna Salad with Greek Olive Oil Sauce

  • Shred 1 green lettuce.
  • Cut 2-3 large tomatoes into wedges or chunks.
  • Cut 1 peeled cucumber into 2 halves lengthwise, then slice it into thick pieces.
  • Slice 1 bell pepper into thin rings or chop it.
  • Cut 1 red onion into half and thinly slice into half-moons.
  • Place everything in a large salad bowl.
  • Add a good handful of the pitted Greek Kalamata olives and crusty bread in chunks
  • Add tuna flaked into small chunks
  • Crash greek nuts into smaller pieces. Add Greek Olive Oil in a small frying pan and fry Greek nuts for 1 minute.
  • Add fired Greek nuts into a salad bowl and toss gently to mix all veggies, tuna and nuts.

  • Pour the Greek Extra Virgin Olive Oil and red wine vinegar in a small bowl.
  • Add honey and oregano.
