Sometimes you just want a really good, old-school tuna salad. This is my go-to recipe. I start by draining the tuna well so its not watery this is important! then I add a generous scoop of mayonnaise and lots of seasoning. From there, I stir in a spoonful of pickle relish for tangy sweetness, celery for crunch, and scallions for onion flavor. Finally, I add a squeeze of lemon juice and fresh parsley to brighten the whole thing up. The result is a classic tuna salad thats fresh, flavorful, and easy to make. Its the only tuna salad recipe youll ever need.

Substitutions For Healthy Tuna Salad Recipe

Tuna: We prefer to use canned tuna in water. You can also use tuna in olive oil. Make sure your tuna is wild caught. We like this brand. We used canned tuna with no salt added so you may need to add a pinch of salt. I havent tried this with canned salmon but I think it would work!

Greek Yogurt: We like to use plain non fat greek yogurt. You can use full fat greek yogurt or regular yogurt. We havent tried this with nondairy yogurt but I think it would work. Greek yogurt is a great mayonnaise substitute for tuna! If youre wondering what to put in tuna instead of mayo, you really cant tell the difference with greek yogurt!

Carrot/Celery: Feel free to add more or less carrot or celery. You can also omit them.

Dairy Free: I have not tried this with dairy free yogurt, but I think it would work. Make sure that your yogurt is unsweetened, plan yogurt.

Spices: We kept this recipe simple with pepper, onion powder and garlic powder. You could add other spices like dried or fresh parsley, red pepper flakes or whatever you like

Buffalo Sauce: This healthy tuna salad is great with a splash of buffalo sauce added.

Cauliflower Rice Fried In Butter And Curry Powder

The curry powder and butter give this dish an amazing depth of flavor that will make you forget all about what you were thinking about just a minute ago.

The combination of the curry and the butter makes it so that the cauliflower rice tastes like it was cooked in butter and I love butter.

As a side dish, you can make it like a regular potato dish, and its definitely easier than making a regular potato salad.

Its also perfect if you want a side dish thats a little more filling and more nutritious.

Just because you may be used to pairing broccoli with tuna salad doesnt mean that asparagus must join the list of those things that dont go together!

For the most part, the flavors that make up this recipe are mild enough that they wont overwhelm any of the other flavors in the dish.

You will notice that it calls for asparagus stalks, which are the tough parts of the vegetable that are usually discarded or cooked separately from the florets.

A Fresh And Flavorful Tuna Salad Recipe

Delicious Chickpea Tuna Salad Recipe

Ill admit that my tuna salad recipe has a few more ingredients in it than a classic tuna and mayo version but these fresh, flavorful and crunchy ingredients are what make this tuna salad the best tuna salad recipe, at least in my book.

I love the flavor of fresh herbs, so I chop up some fresh dill, and add that inhuge flavor boost!

I also love the sweet-spiciness of a little touch of very finely minced red onion, as well as some finely diced crunchy celery so those tasty ingredients get tossed into my prep bowl as well.

And for even more flavor, I add a touch of either yellow mustard or Dijon mustard, plus a kiss of lemon zest, sea salt, and freshly cracked black pepper.

Because Im not a big fan of what I consider too much mayo, I keep my tuna salad on the lighter side, which makes this a slightly lower-calorie and lower-fat tuna salad recipebonus!

The combination of fresh, flavorful and crunchy add-ins give an otherwise typical tuna salad a big flavor pop with a bit of a kick and some extra texturea total must for me and my tastebuds!

Plus, this salad makes for the best tuna salad sandwich!

Just add a bed of fresh lettuce and some sprouts or micro greens onto some rustic bread or a toasted everything bagel, and youve got an incredibly satisfying and healthy meal.

Tuna can be a wonderful, low-cost protein option. It is also nutrient-rich, containing essential vitamins, minerals, and omega-3 fatty acids. There are a couple kinds of tuna out there, like white albacore and chunk light. Some are packed in olive oil, while others are packed in water.

I try to use wild-caught Yellowfin or Albacore tuna as much as possible. And if you’re concerned about the fat content, your best bet will be tuna packed in water instead of olive oil.
