Listeria Fears Behind Papa Johns Salads And Produce Recall

Papa John’s NEW Epic Stuffed Crust Pizza Review!

The Tolleson, Arizona-based company is voluntarily recalling their Signature Café Citrus Kale Salad with Chicken items produced from May 10 through May 17, 2016, and sold to retail locations in Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, South Dakota and Wyoming.

According to the USDAs Food Safety Inspection Service this Class 1 recall was prompted after the company was notified by SunOpta that its sunflower kernel products used in Papa Johns Salads and Produce products were involved in a recall due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Less commonly, persons outside these risk groups are affected.

In related news, Dakota Style Foods, Inc. of Clark, South Dakota, has expanded their recall to include 15,158 cases of sunflower kernels because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The sunflower kernels were distributed to 34 customers nation-wide and are sold through retail outlets.

The consumer packages are plastic packages bearing the company logo and product name with the lot code located on the back right hand panel of the consumer package. For a full list of the products and lot codes, please go to the FDA website.
