While Founder Joey Cioffi debuted The Salad House in Millburn, New Jersey in 2011, its real beginnings trace back to Cioffis childhood in Springfield where he did everything from washing dishes to fulfilling large catering orders in his familys deli. These early experiences coupled with his fathers inspiring tenacity helped Joey turn his vision into a reality: to provide a fresh fast-casual experience that was both healthy and family-friendly.

In 2017, in partnership with friend/customer/entrepreneur Jerry Eicke, The Salad House began franchising. Today, the Salad House continues to focus on growing its business through franchise locations throughout the Northeast.

In addition to deliciously fresh salads, The Salad House offers wraps, sandwiches, soups, small plates, grain bowls, and smoothies.

The Salad House will join Han Dynasty a restaurant offering spicy Sichuan dishes, Kuzina a Greek restaurant, and Dolsot a Japanese establishment.

WNP: When exactly will the incoming Salad House debut?

Cioffi: Id say were looking at six to eight months or so from now.

WNP: Who will head-up the operation?

Cioffi: Milos Rizuc and Fabiana Perugorria.

WNP: What sets The Salad House apart from other establishments like it?

Cioffi: Healthier eating is becoming more mainstream and were definitely behind the movement, but we differ from other salad stores in that we have a great kids menu and also serve sandwiches and French fries. Health is all about balance.

The Salad House Plans To Open Location In Downtown Newark

A suburban restaurant chain specializing in salads, soups, sandwiches, and smoothies will soon expand into Downtown Newark.

The Salad House is planning to open a restaurant within the Walker House development at 540 Broad Street. The franchised location is expected to open by the beginning of this summer, according to company founder Joey Cioffi.

Were really excited to come into Newark, Cioffi said in a phone interview, describing The Salad Houses upcoming location in the city as coming full circle for his family. Cioffis father used to own Tonys Pizzeria in the Ironbound.

The Salad House was founded more than a decade ago in Millburn and currently has additional restaurants in Livingston, Montclair, Morristown, and Westfield. Other outposts are envisioned for Englewood, Red Bank, Ridgewood, and Sparta.

The Walker House location will be situated to the right of the buildings lobby on the Broad Street side. Official hours of operation have not yet been determined, but Cioffi said that they are aiming to be open seven days a week.

Located opposite Washington Park, the New Jersey Bell Headquarters Building was converted into Walker House three years ago. Apartments now take up much of the building where offices were once located.

Welcome To The Salad House

The Salad House by Cioffi

The Salad House has been generations in the making. Growing up in the Cioffi family deli in Springfield, NJ, our founder, Joey Cioffi, did everything from washing dishes to fulfilling large catering orders. Having the same passion for quality service as his father, Joey ultimately created The Salad House concept with one single purpose: to provide a fresh fast-casual experience that was both healthy and family friendly. Joey launched the first Salad House in Millburn, NJ in 2011, followed by Morristown in 2013, fulfilling his own American Dream just as his father did generations ago when immigrated from Italy with just $20 in his pocket.

In 2016, Jerry Eicke got involved. Jerry, a frequent customer and a huge fan of The Salad House food, marveled at how fit the restaurant was to serve quality food for all people. Jerry, a successful entrepreneur and operator in his own right, met with Joey and they quickly realized that, just like our salads, they make the perfect combination.

Joey and Jerry came to a franchising agreement and opened the third location in Westfield, NJ in 2017. The Salad House continues to focus on growing its business through franchise locations throughout the Northeast.
