It took Chicken Salad Chick a decade to open its first 100 stores.
The next 100 restaurants popped up in less than three years.
For CEO Scott Deviney, having 200 open locations positions the fast-casual concept for its new era of growth.
Its so challenging to grow a brand from a very small number to a bigger number, said Deviney, who joined the chain in 2015 when it had 32 locations. And the statistics in franchising are so stacked against you to get to 100 units. Every time we can hit a new milestone, it means were doing something that such a few companies can attain.
The Southern-style chicken salad brand continues its growth far outside of its home base of Atlanta, into states such as Virginia, Ohio and Indiana, with an eye toward having 500 locations by 2025.
Some of the chains recent expansion has been fueled by private equity firm Brentwood Associates, which bought the concept in late 2019.
Despite the recent flurry of restaurants making forays into initial public offerings, Deviney said thats not top of mind for Chicken Salad Chick.
I wouldnt say its an end game or not an end game, he said. Were constantly monitoring the markets to see what happens. It comes down to the owner on whats the right time to exit. I dont get too hung up on it. I dont think Brentwoods ready to sell us tomorrow.
Despite surging COVID rates in much of its trade area, the chain is still seeing strong on-premise growth, he said.

I went back to the store for more grapes and that made it perfect. Let me tell you, this stuff is like crack. It is SO good! As a long time user of your app, and UX professional, the scanner updates that were made in the last update do not work from a usability standpoint. The image is distorted and theres feedback to know how to position the receipt to get it to work. I cant imagine it passed any kind of usability testing with customers.

Fickle At Times Orders Dont Get Auto Points
I have a love/hate relationship with this app. I love CSC. I love being able to order something to go. I love that the cafe is always accurate with my orders. I hate that this app never remembers my location , glitches sporadically inhibit the ordering process , and most of all – that when I do am order through the app I NEVER get the points added into my craving points balance. I have to ask at the store for a receipt to scan. And not just that – I have to remind employees that they have to ring up the order as a dine in order in order to get the barcode for me to scan and eventually I get the points I shouldve been credited right when I placed my order and paid for it in the app. Ive even gone through customer service/support for the app for this last, biggest issue… with zero response from CSC. Its disappointing, especially from a chain I like so much in so many other ways.
