How Is This Frito Taco Salad Gluten Free
Some store-bought blends of taco seasoning have wheat in them, so I prefer to make my own spice blend to ensure I know everything that is in it.
Otherwise, the meat and veggies should be naturally gluten free. Though, you should read every label, every time if you have a food allergy just to ensure. Ive seen stuff in places I never would have thought theyd be.
The ranch that I suggest does not have gluten.
Thankfully, the croutons are Fritos, so theres no gluten there either.

Can I Freeze This
Salad dressings generally dont freeze well, as the ingredients tend to separate while they thaw. Since this is such a quick and easy condiment that lasts for up to a week in the fridge, Ive never felt the need to freeze it anyway.
But if youd like to do some experimentation, try freezing small portions in an ice cube tray for up to 1 month, thawing them out in the fridge and mixing/shaking the thawed mixture very well before using.
Storing Dairy Free Salad Dressings
Refrigerate and store your salad dressings in a covered container for up to 10 days if you use dried ingredients.

If it solidified put the bottle in a bowl of hot water and give it another good stir, it should liquify in a matter of minutes.

*Our allergies, while severe and that get re-tested yearly, are such that we can go strictly by what’s on the label. I do not call companies to see what things are derived from, or call manufacturers to see about potential cross contact. If your allergies require you to do so, please do your own homework. I cannot assure you of any ingredient’s safety, only you can do that. I simply share what works for our family.

Is Italian Dressing Vegan Or Dairy Free
This recipe is intended to replicate zesty Italian salad dressings that are widely available at North American grocery stores. Many of these store-bought options are accidentally vegan, however some include eggs or dairy . It varies by brand so always read labels!
Theres certainly nothing wrong with using store-bought options I keep a few on hand for when I dont feel like making a homemade batch. However, I often make my own salad dressing because its quick, easy and customizable to my taste preferences!

Gluten Ingredients To Avoid In Salad Dressing
In addition to knowing which salad dressings are generally going to be safe for your gluten-free diet, its also important to know what ingredients youll want to look for in order to avoid them.
You can look at the back of any bottled salad dressing and look for these ingredients. If you find them, youll know youll want to avoid this product and look for something different that is gluten-free.
- Malt vinegar
- Soy sauce
- Spice blend
Some of these ingredients may be an indication of gluten in the product, while sometimes it isnt.
For example, modified food starch CAN be made from gluten, but it isnt always necessarily made from gluten.
Modified food starch can also be made from corn, and if the packaging shows modified food starch , youll know that ingredient is gluten-free, as corn doesnt contain gluten.
Read on: Is modified food starch gluten-free?
The main thing to keep in mind is that if you see one of these ingredients in an ingredients list, they may contain gluten.
If there are details about that ingredient, like more ingredients within parentheses, and these dont contain any gluten-containing ingredients, then you can feel okay about that product being gluten-free.
One of my little secrets is that I carry around a copy of my GFDF Take Along Cards so that I always have a point of reference when I can sneak a peek at the ingredient list of a food.

Do I Need To Look For A Gluten
Depending on your level of sensitivity to gluten, you may want to look for a gluten-free label before buying any salad dressing youre looking at when shopping at the store.
A gluten-free label on any packaged food product will show you that the brand has tested their product and, as required by the FDA, can only contain less than 20ppm of gluten in that product. That is trace amounts or less of gluten.
It can be helpful to have that extra note of assurance that the product is gluten-free, but if youre good at reading ingredients lists, know the names of gluten, and you know your level of sensitivity isnt super high, then you may also be able to get away with eating a food that doesnt have that label.
You will need to determine what youre comfortable with when it comes to gluten-free labeling based on what you know about your body and your reactions to gluten.
Apple Cider Vs Apple Cider Vinegar
Though similar in name, apple cider and apple cider vinegar are two very different things.
Apple Cider is a drink made from apples. It can also be called sweet cider, non-alcoholic cider, or just plain cider depending on where you live. It is made by harvesting apples, pressing them into juice, minimally filtering them, and pasteurizing for safe drinking.
Apple cider is like the more raw and unfiltered version of apple juice. A lot of the pulp is left in the apple cider as opposed to the super filtered juice. So if you cant find apple cider where you live, swap it for apple juice for a very similar drink.
It also is very healthy to drink as it is! Due to having more of the apple skin and pulp left behind in the making, it has more fiber in the cider as well as more vitamins and minerals.
Apple Cider Vinegar is a type of vinegar that has been made from apples. First, they ferment the apples into natural sugar alcohol, then add specific bacterias to make the vinegar. This is not really recommended that you drink a giant glass of it but adding a spoonful to a glass of water can be beneficial in some aspects.
So which to use in this recipe?
The version that I make in my home all the time is with apple cider NOT apple cider vinegar. If you cant get apple cider, again, try making this with juice.

How Is This Frito Taco Salad Dairy Free
Typical taco salad has some sort of shredded cheddar cheese. I find that I dont really miss it. The salad has so much going on, flavor and texture that its one thing that doesnt have to have cheese. Yay for saving calories
As long as you use a dairy-free dressing, like I recommend, you should have officially avoided dairy in this dish.
