How To Make Meal Prep Salads Inexpensively
All of my recipes are affordable to begin with but there are some things you can do to make sure youre spending well. Here are some of the strategies you can use to make this recipe more economical:
- Stock up on ingredients when they are on sale. When I find regular kitchen staples on sale, I buy a lot. Its a great way to save money on your groceries without clipping a single coupon. Im currently using a price book to track prices and thats saving me money. Vegetables are generally pretty affordable, but items like bell peppers can get pricy. Stock up during a sale and enjoy salads all week long!
- Shred or chop your own. While I like the convenience of buying shredded cabbage and carrots, you can save more money by shredding your own vegetables.
- Grow your own! If youve got the space and inclination, growing your own lettuce and other vegetables can be a great way to trim costs.
How To Serve 5
There are several ways you can serve salmon salad so its really however you prefer.
- Serve it in a traditional way as a salmon salad sandwich with your favorite bread.
- Serve it in your favorite tortilla wrap such as our grain-free tortillas or corn tortillas.
- Wrap it in a lettuce leaf .
- Serve it on top of crackers or cucumber slices
- Serve it on top of a bed of green.

Can You Freeze Salad Toppings
Your standard salad toppings are not freezer-friendly. Frozen lettuce? Sog city. While you can freeze a number of vegetables like peppers or onions, they are best for cooking after thawing, not for using in salads.
However, there are many ingredients that you can use as salad toppings that can be prepped and stored in the freezer until ready to use.
Cook, cool, and package in small portions the following:
- cooked proteins
- cooked chopped egg
- shredded or crumbled cheeses
- cooked beans
- frozen peas and corn make great salad toppings, no need to cook them in advance, just thaw and add to your salad

Can I Use Fresh Salmon Instead Of Canned Salmon How About Canned Tuna
Absolutely. All of the above work great! Canned salmon and canned tuna make for great pantry staples. I almost always have one or both on hand. So if you have canned tuna but no canned salmon, feel free to use the tuna. I also like to make Salmon Salad with leftover grilled, baked, or broiled salmon. Just use what you have on hand.
Tools I Use To Make This Easily:
- salad spinner I have this one and love the salad bowl bottom. A salad spinner is key to getting lettuce dry. Dry lettuce lasts longer and holds dressings better.
- plastic cutting board I have several: blue for veggies white for meats
- Ergo chef chefs knife some of my favorite knives
- meal prep containers These are available in BPA-free plastic as well as glass. I prefer the square Pyrex Snapware.

How To Integrate A Used Commercial Sandwich Prep Table Into Your Kitchen
Placement of your brand new commercial sandwich prep table into the existing workflow of your kitchen is going to be a matter of personal preference and the needs of your restaurant. If youre using it for sandwiches, placing the unit near the front of the house or near the cash register may make the most sense after all, customers love watching their sandwiches get made, for some reason.
If youre using the sandwich prep table in another station in the kitchen, such as for appetizers or salads, it may make sense to separate that station from the rest of the kitchen . Remember, these units are designed to make it easy to access the ingredients you use most often, so place it within your kitchen accordingly.

Lunchtime at work can be annoying at times. Some colleagues want to go the Italian restaurant with the unfriendly staff and their super heavy pasta dishes again.
Others want to grab something from the supermarket. But its a little expensive and not exactly satisfying either.

In theory you could prepare lunch for the whole work week in about 45 minutes on a Sunday. The only thing you need are 5 jars and enough space in the refrigerator.
The idea is pretty simple: start with filling a dressing into a jar and then layer various ingredients like greens, veggies, rice and cheese on top.
Keep those jars in the fridge until you need them. Grab a bowl and empty the jar. The dressing will then cover the whole salad. Done.
Sounds easy? Well, it is! To get you a little inspired Ive put together a step-by-step tutorial plus 21 awesome recipes to try out! Alright then, lets start!

How To Evaluate A Used Commercial Sandwich Prep Table
As with any kitchen item thats prone to hard use and abuse, evaluating a used commercial sandwich prep table requires some special considerations. When evaluating a unit for potential purchase, begin by examining the overall cosmetic condition of the sandwich prep table. Is the stainless steel scratched up? Are there dents in the doors? Does the swivel top stay open when its supposed to, a swing smoothly closed? Are all four feet or casters still present on the unit? While none of these impede the function of a used commercial sandwich prep table, they can tell you a lot about how well the unit was treated, and how long it was in use. If the front door of the unit has a huge dent thats suspiciously the size of a line cooks foot, or the sides of the unit are covered in rust and grime, its a safe bet that the equipment wasnt treated with the respect it deserved. And if the outsides were beaten on, chances are, the insides were pretty heavily neglected as well.
Ask your seller if anything else is included in the sale. Many vendors will throw in a few 1/6 pans to fill the top prep area, along with the steel rails needed for different pan configurations. If these arent included, it shouldnt be a deal-breaker, but remember that purchasing a few dozen prep pans will add to your cost. While youre at it, check to make sure that the unit has all of its original shelves, and if not, find out how expensive it will be to replace them.
Here Is How To Make A Salad In A Jar
Layer 1: Important! First add the dressing into the jar . You can take any type of dressing. If you add the dressing later, ingredients that youd much rather stay dry might get soggy.
We dont want that. This is particularly important when you prepare glasses for several days.
Alternatively you can keep the ingredients for a quick dressing at work and just prepare right before you eat.
Here are my favourite three dressings to get you started:
Refreshing sweet and sour dressing :
- ½ lemon
- 2 tsp maple syrup
- Salt and pepper to taste
Asian Style Peanut Butter Dressing :
- 1 tbsp peanut butter
- 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup to make it vegan
- 1 tbsp vinegar or lemon
- 2-3 tbsp water
- A pinch or two of chopped or grated ginger
Layer 2: Now enter crisp ingredients such as tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion, asparagus, celery, peppers, carrots into the jar.
This level is important to protect the other ingredients from getting soggy. Best are vegetables that you can imagine pickled in vinegar.
Layer 3: This level is for ingredients that should not necessarily swim in dressing, but its also not a drama if they do get wet.
Some ideas would be mushrooms, zucchini, beans, lentils, peas, corn, broccoli and so on.
Layer 4: More delicate ingredients such as hard boiled eggs and cheese can be added now.
Layer 5: Now its time to add something more substantial! From rice over pasta to more exotic ingredients like quinoa or couscous, use anything you like to seal the jar.

Additionally, both types of prep tables have refrigerated storage below the cutting board where you can keep extra ingredients or other prepped foods.
How Do You Use A Commercial Sandwich Prep Table
You can use a commercial sandwich prep table in a variety of ways. The most common use is for the preparation of hot or cold sandwiches (hence the name of this type of equipment. The sandwich assembler will start at one end of the unit with a sub roll, for example, and then access the refrigerated top for the different ingredients needed to build the sandwich, scooting the bread along the front rail as they work their way down the line. Lettuce, tomato, cheese, meat, olives, mayonnaise, mustardthey can all be accessed easily, with only a minimal increase in temperature for the ingredients within. After the sandwich is built, the top is swung closed, to protect the ingredients from warm air or other contaminants.
But sandwich prep tables arent limited to making sandwiches. Theyre also often employed in a restaurants cold station, where salads, cold appetizers, and similar foods are prepared. In this case, the refrigerated top pans would be filled with prepped lettuce, tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, assorted dressings, and anything else that might be included on the plate.
