How To Make An At Home Salad Bar:
Prepare your salad dressings. The best thing about salad dressings is that they can be made ahead of time. This time I whipped up a Lemon Poppyseed Dressing and Cashew Caesar Dressing. I also put out olive oil and balsamic vinegar for the people who like simpler salads.
Then it’s just a matter of chopping your veggies. Display them all in their own bowls for optimal cuteness, with lots of spoons. Arrange all of your selections starting with the lettuce on one side and working your way through all the options with the dressings last so that salads can be assembled in order. That’s it! Endless salad options await you.

How To Prep My Salad Bar:
I order all of my groceries online from Grocery Gateway, which is an online grocery store that’s been around for 20 years!
I’ve never ordered groceries online before and I was super impressed at how easy and convenient it was. I already had my grocery list at the ready so I just searched and found everything on the site and then ordered it. No different than ordering yoga pants online . I got to choose a delivery date and time, and before I knew it: a knock was on the door. And there were two boxes full of goodies. Chickpea dog was just as excited for the unboxing as I was.
If you want to try delivery groceries, Grocery Gateway was kind enough to offer all my readers $15 off your order. For both new or existing customers, just use this one-time case sensitive code by entering: GGSam2017 at checkout .
I must admit, I was a little worried that whoever was picking my produce wouldn’t put the care into it that I normally do. I was considered they would choose lettuce that was old or a red pepper that had a squishy spot. But I was delighted to find that everything was fresh and perfect. They even deliver beer and wine! Pre-tay cool, this chick approves.
Once I had my groceries at the ready, it was just a matter of whipping up my salad dressings and chopping up some veg. Before I knew it, I had an at-home salad bar ready to go in no time.

Here Is How To Make A Salad In A Jar
Layer 1: Important! First add the dressing into the jar . You can take any type of dressing. If you add the dressing later, ingredients that youd much rather stay dry might get soggy.
We dont want that. This is particularly important when you prepare glasses for several days.
Alternatively you can keep the ingredients for a quick dressing at work and just prepare right before you eat.
Here are my favourite three dressings to get you started:
Refreshing sweet and sour dressing :
- ½ lemon
- 2 tsp maple syrup
- Salt and pepper to taste
Asian Style Peanut Butter Dressing :
- 1 tbsp peanut butter
- 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup to make it vegan
- 1 tbsp vinegar or lemon
- 2-3 tbsp water
- A pinch or two of chopped or grated ginger
Layer 2: Now enter crisp ingredients such as tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion, asparagus, celery, peppers, carrots into the jar.
This level is important to protect the other ingredients from getting soggy. Best are vegetables that you can imagine pickled in vinegar.
Layer 3: This level is for ingredients that should not necessarily swim in dressing, but its also not a drama if they do get wet.
Some ideas would be mushrooms, zucchini, beans, lentils, peas, corn, broccoli and so on.
Layer 4: More delicate ingredients such as hard boiled eggs and cheese can be added now.
Layer 5: Now its time to add something more substantial! From rice over pasta to more exotic ingredients like quinoa or couscous, use anything you like to seal the jar.

Lunchtime at work can be annoying at times. Some colleagues want to go the Italian restaurant with the unfriendly staff and their super heavy pasta dishes again.
Others want to grab something from the supermarket. But its a little expensive and not exactly satisfying either.
Yes, were in dire straights. And thats why I want to show you how to make a salad in a jar !
Of course, bringing your own lunch to work is not the newest idea in the world, but this way of doing it is healthy, time saving, money saving and really tasty.
In theory you could prepare lunch for the whole work week in about 45 minutes on a Sunday. The only thing you need are 5 jars and enough space in the refrigerator.
The idea is pretty simple: start with filling a dressing into a jar and then layer various ingredients like greens, veggies, rice and cheese on top.
Keep those jars in the fridge until you need them. Grab a bowl and empty the jar. The dressing will then cover the whole salad. Done.
Sounds easy? Well, it is! To get you a little inspired Ive put together a step-by-step tutorial plus 21 awesome recipes to try out! Alright then, lets start!

Chopt Creative Salad Co
We really want to help people make healthier choices and live healthier lives, said Chopt executive chef Aneesha Hargrave. She said the company sees salads not as an afterthought but as the star. The chain has 57 locations on the East Coast.
Pro tip: Hargrave said the chains menu of 18 house-made dressings is our backbone, so she suggested deciding on the dressing you want first, then building your salad from there. Just as you can get those little spoonfuls at an ice cream shop, you can ask for samples at Chopt a piece of lettuce with a dollop of dressing. Keep asking for samples to taste until you find the dressing you want.
That choice is a good starting point for choosing the rest of your ingredients. If youre going with a heavier dressing like our buttermilk ranch, youll want a sturdier green like romaine or kale as the base of your salad, she advised. If you are choosing a lighter vinaigrette, you should consider more delicate greens like spinach or our Chopt blend.
The optimal salad experience includes no more than five ingredients, she said. In addition, make sure youre including balance with acidic ingredients and items that add some crunch, like nuts, seeds or croutons. They help ensure that the salad will not only taste good in the first two or three bites but that you wont be bored by bite six. If you follow these tips, your salad can be what we call whole bowl worthy, she said.
