Must Try

Brianna’s Homestyle Asiago Caesar

Herby Yogurt Ranch Dressing& Spinach Salad

Don’t let the modest and minimally-styled label fool you: this dressing is far from simple. In addition to including a laundry list of ingredients, Brianna’s cheese-spiked caesar also manages to pack in a whopping 270 milligrams of sodium, which is why we omitted it from being deemed a healthy salad dressing.

Newman’s Own Balsamic Vinaigrette

When you’re looking for a healthy salad dressing, balsamic is usually your go-to, right? Maybe not this one. Balsamic is known for its subtle sweet hints, but this offering is packed with a significant amount of heart-taxing salt. And contrary to its label, balsamic vinegar is a lowly third on the ingredient list, snailing behind fillers such as soybean oil and water.

Healthier Greek Yogurt Ranch Dressing

A healthier version of Americas most popular salad dressing! Usually made with mayonnaise and buttermilk, this healthier Ranch Dressing is made with Greek Yogurt and olive oil, plus a good dose of Ranch Dressing seasonings.

Ranch Dressing is so good, I use it as an all purpose dressing for anything that usually calls for a creamy dressing, from garden salads to pasta salads and corn salad.

But my favourite is to use it for what I call a SouthWest Salad, pictured below. Lettuce, cherry tomatoes, corn, black beans, red onion, optional chicken and bacon, drizzled with this Yogurt Ranch Dressing. Its so good!!

Raspberry Vinaigrette: Bolthouse Farms Organic Raspberry Balsamic

Many people choose raspberry vinaigrette because it sounds like a lighter, fruity option. However, what people don’t realize is that these fruity vinaigrettes often come loaded with added sugars and oil. The Bolthouse Farms version, however, is just 35 calories per serving and keeps the sugars at an impressive 3 grams. While sugar is good for you in many cases, there are some things you need to know about when to check for sugars on the label.

How To Make Greek Yogurt Dressing

1. Mix.

In a large bowl, combine the yogurt, parsley, chives, dill, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, lemon juice, and mustard. Add in a tablespoon of olive oil to help the dressing thicken up when chilled, and add a tablespoon of water to help thin it out, if needed.

Whisk well, until the herbs are evenly incorporated.

2. Chill.

Transfer the creamy Greek yogurt dressing to a storage container with a lid, and let it chill for at least 2 hours to let the flavors develop. It will thicken up slightly when chilled, too.

3. Enjoy!

Serve the dressing as a dip with your favorite vegetables, or over your favorite salad greens.

Leftover dressing can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

We know a fresh salad packed with green vegetables is good for us, but a salad is only as good as the dressing you choose to put on top. In general, salad dressings are either oil-based or cream-based. This distinction is important to know when deciphering whether or not a given product is healthy. Generally speaking, the healthiest salad dressing will be a vinaigrette like balsamic or oil and vinegar, while Caesar, ranch or anything with the word creamy will be the unhealthiest.

The exception? We like products made with healthy swapsthink Greek yogurt in place of mayo or heavy cream. Looking carefully at the list of ingredients will help you understand which salad dressings are healthy and unhealthy choices.

These Are Very Very Good

Bolthouse Farms Yogurt Dressing Cucumber Ranch

Healthy has a bad reputation for meaning bland. Theres no denying that when you strip fat out of salad dressings, you lose a certain element of creaminess on your palette as you munch through a pile of crunchy greens.

But by using a good, thick yogurt in place of mayonnaise and adjusting seasonings to compensate for the loss of fat in the dressings, you can still make very, very good creamy dressings that you can use generously on your salads. I use these dressings far more frequently in day to day life than I do mayonnaise based ones.

Id really love to know what you think if you try any of them! Nagi x

Simply combine all the ingredients in a bowl and whisk them until they are completely combined. Make sure that if you are using granulated sugar that they are dissolved and that the buttermilk powder is not clumpy.

What Are The Different Types Of Yogurt Salad Dressing

Bolthouse Farms® Classic Ranch Yogurt Dressing, 14 fl oz

There are several types of yogurtsalad dressing. They range from the very simple, with the yogurt replacing oil in a basic vinaigrette, to an elaborate mix of sweet and sour ingredients. The style of yogurt that is used can make a difference in the final product, with Greek yogurt providing a thicker, creamier dressing and low-fat yogurt creating a thinner mixture. The texture makes it possible for some yogurt salad dressing to double as a vegetable dip. The combinations are nearly limitless, with the only restrictions being the tastes of the chef.

The yogurt used to form the base can help to steer the flavor of a yogurt salad dressing toward a desired end. Normal yogurt provides a slightly tart base and creaminess. Greek yogurt does not have as strong of a tart flavor and will generate a thicker sauce. Fat-free or light yogurts tend to be a little looser than the others and flow more easily. Finally, there are yogurts that have ingredients such as fruit added to them that can be used as a shortcut for a sweet dressing.

The most basic type of yogurt salad dressing is vinaigrette. This combines yogurt, an acid such as lemon juice and some herbs. The herbs can be anything, although chives and parsley are popular additions. This simple dressing can be used on nearly any salad to give a rich, sharp flavor.

This wonderfully light and creamy yogurt dressing is a cinch to make and is delicious on just about anything, even grilled meats.

This light, tangy and creamy yogurt dressing is featured in the April/May issue of Fine Cooking and comes from chef Ana Sortun, who owns the celebrated Eastern Mediterranean restaurants Oleana and Sofra in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Sortun pairs the dressing with a Shredded Romaine, Arugula & Cucumber Salad but I can tell you its delicious on just about anything, even grilled meats. I love it so much that I already bought Sortuns cookbook, Spice: Flavors of the Eastern Mediterranean, and am thinking about making a pilgrimage to Cambridge

Why We Love This Greek Yogurt Ranch Dressing Recipe

Given that I have shared quite a few ranch recipes over the years, from my Healthy Ranch Dip, my Maple Ranch Dressing and my Horseradish Ranch Dressing, I knew I better share my healthy classic ranch recipe with you. I have finally put the finishing touches on it and I have to say, it came out so well!

As the title suggests this recipe is made with Greek yogurt, which is how we can get away with much less mayonnaise than a typical homemade ranch dressing. But unlike a lot of other recipes for Greek Yogurt Ranch, this one is unique in that it has both buttermilk and buttermilk powder added to it for authentic farmhouse-style ranch flavor.

We also added in fresh chopped shallot and dill which make it taste fresh and light and so much better than store-bought dressing. It goes well over a simple garden salad, to dunk veggies into, or use for Air Fried Buffalo Cauliflower Wings. I wont judge if you want to dip your pizza into it, and I even have used it to dress pasta salad and everyone loved the classic creamy taste!

This ranch dressing recipe is yet another awesome homemade salad dressing to try from the dozens I have shared here on Healthy Seasonal Recipes. If you havent tried any of them yet, make sure to check out my Lemon Vinaigrette and my Apple Cider Vinegar Dressing. Those are two of our top-rated! And since youre a fan of creamy dressings, youll probably want to check out our Healthy Blue Cheese Dressing and our Light Creamy Italian Dressing.
