In terms of purchasing, all of these dressings can be purchased at Whole Foods. You can likely find the Braggs, Primal Kitchen and Tessemaes dressings at other natural grocery stores and some mainstream grocers just look on the natural food aisle. Why You Might Want To Make Oil Free Salad Dressings
One of the main health benefits of a salad is a very high nutrient to calorie ratio. A pound of raw greens, for example, contains around 100 calories. For a visual, the large plastic clamshell containers of mixed greens at the supermarket weigh one pound. You would be hard-pressed to eat that entire container all at once, especially if you added some carrot shreds and sliced red onion, cucumber, and radish for variety and texture. A more realistic portion of that mixed green salad is a quarter-pound, which would, after adding in some bonus veggies, yield around 60 calories. So far, so good.
Now add your oil-based salad dressing. Lets stick to the serving size of two tablespoons just for the sake of argument. A serving of dressing thats 50% oil would, therefore, include one tablespoon of oil, which contains 120 calories. Suddenly your 60 calorie salad is now a 180 calorie salad. And two-thirds of the calories are coming from the oil in the dressing. So while your eyes can fool you into thinking that youre eating a large salad with a little bit of dressing, your metabolism is actually dealing with a large amount of dressing with a small side of salad.
Oil is theres no way around it a highly processed food. Its had all of the fiber, protein, and most of the phytonutrients removed from whatever it was made from, creating a product that is pretty far from what nature intended.

Annie’s Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing Organic
This is a good choice for someone who’s looking for a lower calorie balsamic with a creamy, not oily, mouthfeel. There are good mustard flavors and the interesting addition of cloves. Just know that this dressing does use canola oil, so you won’ be getting a healthier olive oil. Honey adds a slight sweetness.
How Does Primal Kitchen Ranch Dressing Taste
The biggest challenge for a dairy free Ranch dressing is to mimic the twang that authentic Ranch dressings get from the use of sour cream and buttermilk. Primal Kitchen has addressed this challenge by the use of two types of vinegar. The dual vinegar inclusion does add some nice acidity but does not quite match the flavor profile of dairy based Ranch dressings.
That being said, the flavor of the dressing is pretty dang close to what you would expect for a Ranch sauce.
We poured the Ranch over some air fried chicken and really enjoyed the flavors. The herbs were plentiful and tasted reasonably fresh. There was a nice acidic component from the vinegars that worked well with the lemon juice.
The sauce was a little thinner than I was expecting but not so much as to be considered a flaw.
I have been using the dressing as a dip for baby carrots and celery sticks and can see how this would be extremely popular as a salad dressing.
The label states that you can use this product as a Dressing and a Marinade. After my poor results of using the Primal Kitchen No Soy Teriyaki as a marinade I decided to stick to using these products as sauces and did not use the Ranch to marinate anything.
This product cost me $7.95 and, while I liked it, I am not sure that I will buy it again as dairy free is not one of my dietary restrictions. However, if you want a Ranch dressing that is dairy, soy and canola free then this product will make you happy.
