Unfortunately a particular signature hamburger or special recipe pizza sauce can leave a powerful mental imprint that long outlasts the lifespan of the product.
Some of the now-defunct chains listed below were regional, some have one or two lonely outlets still hanging in there, but their common bond is that they are nostalgic favorites for a lot of folks. How many of them bring back fond food memories for you?
Pork Soup At The Reiger: Missouri
Pork is a staple in the Heartlands, and one that is used often at this Kansas City restaurant. This riff on a French onion soup starts with a rich pork garlic broth and shredded pork confit. Its topped with a pork skin crouton and broiled gruyere cheese. Angostura bitters and sherry vinegar add a touch of acid. Once a special on the opening menu, it is now a menu staple and the only dish on the menu that never changes.

It could be the next generation of fast food, according to Joan Lang, executive editor of New York-based Restaurant Business magazine. Theres definitely a market for that kind of thing . . . especially in the Sun Belt and the big cities. It could be a real go-go kind of a situation.
Craving for More
Slightly more than 60% of consumers dine at least once a month at restaurants with salad and food bars, according to a 1987 survey conducted by the Washington-based National Restaurant Assn. A like number of consumers wish that self-serve salad and food bars were more widespread, according to the NRA survey.
The NRA survey also suggested that 70% of the nations consumers believe that salad and food bars will satisfy their hunger for good values.
The popularity of salad and self-serve food bars among consumers is undisputed, according to the NRA. Word of a good food bar will bring in new customers.

Sandwiches are composed with an eye toward balance, but if you want to go big, go for the J.J. Who Has The Best Fast Food Chicken Noodle Soup
The first place we went was Popeyes, an exciting chicken noodle soup experience where the noodles are included with every order of their fried chicken sandwich.
The result is a big bowl of hot and fresh noodles that you can pour over your vegetables or beans for added flavour while eating your main dish.
The next stop was Chick-fil-A, which has two different options for chicken noodle soups on their menu: traditional and creamy & hearty.
The difference between them is primarily how much space youre looking to add to your dish due to the latters heavier use of pepper. And while they may not have the best chicken noodle soup weve ever had, there are few other.
Fast food chains with soup that offer a side dish for just under $0.50, and it tastes pretty good when you need some warmth on a cold winter day.
