Do You Have To Cook Smoked Salmon

Healthy Cobb Seafood Salmon Salad with Easy Salad Dressing

Smoked salmon is often served as-is, but if you dont love the texture of cold smoked salmon you also have the option of heating it up. When I worked in a restaurant, we would heat up smoked salmon for salads in our pizza oven when customers requested it. You can do this at home, too!

Just lay the salmon pieces on a large baking sheet and put it under your ovens broiler for a minute or two. When the fish turns more opaque and light pink in color, its done. You can also throw it in a skillet over medium heat to sauté until a more cooked look is achieved, if you prefer to skip the oven. Keep in mind that cooked smoked salmon will be slightly saltier in flavor than the cold version.

All The Love For Asian Salmon Salad

The love runs deep I tell you.

I dont remember exactly where I had Asian Salmon Salad for the first time. I have a feeling I was traveling, because if I lived near the place I had it I totally would have gone backlike 200 times.

The ingredients inside of the salad was also a bit hard to recall, except that I remember the dressing being light, and possibly soy and vinegar based. Side note if you didnt already notice: I dont have the best memory. Of anything.

But I do remember this. I remember taking a bite and thinking it was JUST AH-MA-ZING. The salmon was perfectly marinated in some glorious sticky sweet and savory sauce. It was crusty on the outside, perfectly cooked and juicy on the inside. The lovely piece of salmon laid on a bed of lettuce that had just the right amount of dressing. When I bit into the salmon, it MELTED into my mouth.

I was ready to have it again. I squeezed out every ounce of details I can from my vague memory of that Asian Salmon Salad, and created this recipe.

And DANG. I am beaming with pride. Because it tasted just as good as I remember, and gave me ALL THE FEELS I remember having.

I have been quite obsessed with it since. And I have this feeling that you will be too.

How To Make Creamy Cilantro Lime Dressing

Now lets talk about this awesome dressing. Its slightly sweet, tart, with a bit of heat from the jalapeno.

The dressing gets nice and thick thanks to the Sour cream. I also add fresh cilantro and fresh squeezed lime juice. Honey is added to offset the tart lime juice.

All of the ingredients are added to a blender or food processor and blend until creamy and thick. I like to store leftover dressing in the fridge to use throughout the week.

Store leftover salad and salmon separately for up to 3 days. Great for meal-prepping!

Step 2: While your salmon is cooking, whisk together all of the salad ingredients and prep the rest of your salad ingredients. Chop the romaine and add to a large salad bowl, top with cooked quinoa, red onion, tomatoes, olives, feta and chopped almonds.

For the dressing, you can make any dressing you like. The great thing about the combination of ingredients used in this recipe is that it goes with any dressing you choose to use. I love preparing an easy mayo dressing at home. Its made with olive oil, light mayo, salt, lemon juice and garlic.

You can use your choice of Italian parsley or cilantro to go with the dressing. I use a few leaves of Italian parsley with mine when I process it. Pour the dressing over your salad and enjoy it!

Which Salmon To Buy

Smoked Salmon Potato Salad | The BEST Potato Salad! | with Homemade Lemon Caper Dressing

I know salmon can be a bit expensive so to get a bang for your buck, buy the best! Here are few tips on how to buy the best salmon for your recipe:

  • Vibrant Colors: Easily enough, you can spot a good fish just by looking at it. It should show a vibrant orange to ivory-pink color. If it looks dull, its probably best you leave that alone.
  • Cozy Aroma:If you manage to get close to a piece of salmon, try smelling it even from a distance. It should smell like a salty ocean breeze instead of fishy. Remember: if its fishy, its fishy.
  • Plump and Moist:Give the fish a little press, it should spring back to its original shape almost immediately. Squishy and loose fish meat is always a sign of disaster.
  • Clear Complexion:Avoid getting salmon slices with browned spots or bruising, it means that it wasnt handled well during the shipment.
  • Avoid Gapping:If you see the edges of the fish cut falling apart, its best to avoid that. It could be a sign of either bad meat or decomposition. Youll see this gapping when the meat parts easily collapse on their own. Yikes!
  • Firmness:Try asking the butcher to lift the fish. The firmer salmon is, the better! If its floppy, it must be a flop. L

You can also buy frozen salmon especially if you have a trusted brand. Freezing the fish is one way to preserve its quality. Vacuum sealing is also another way to do this. Dont be afraid to buy these, some may say that they are as good as fresh!

Crispy Salmon Salad With Creamy Lemon Feta Dressing

original sound Stella Drivas

I drew upon my viral Crispy Salmon Rice Bowls and my Cobb Salad with Creamy Lemon Dressing. Here Ive combined the two recipes and leveled it up with the dressing. If you havent tried adding feta to your salad dressing, you dont know what youre missing.

I also substituted Greek yogurt for the sour cream in the dressing didnt even notice the difference. The yogurt, lemon and dill combination kind of gives it a tsatziki vibe. Of course you can add in Kalamata olives, some sunflower seeds, whatever you like and enjoy in your salad.

Chopped Salmon Salad Ingredients

One thing I particularly like about this chopped salad recipe is, its very easy to customize to your tastes. So, if you dont care for my choice of veggies, use whatever you enjoy and/or have on hand.

  • Salmon If you dont want to make the salmon salad using a fresh salmon filet, you can use canned salmon instead. The good news is, canned salmon is also a great source of Omega 3s. If you are using canned salmon, be sure to get boneless salmon so you dont have to worry about picking out little bones!
  • Fresh veggies I like to use romaine lettuce, cucumbers, bell peppers, and red onion. Feel free to change things up and use whatever you have on hand. For example, baby tomatoes, carrots, olives, shallots, and more. Just be sure to chop everything into small bite-sized pieces so you can have a bite with a little bit of everything.
  • Avocado In addition to the creaminess it provides to the salad, avocados also contain heart-healthy fat.
  • Fresh herbs Adding some fresh parsley or dill will give the chopped salmon salad an extra boost. You can also try basil, cilantro, or tarragon.

Does Vinaigrette Dressing Need To Be Refrigerated

Salmon Greek Salad with Lemon Basil Dressing

Some people assume that because olive oil and vinegar separately are shelf stable, that a dressing with these ingredients would be as well. If all thats in it is the oil and vinegar, then youd be right it can sit on a shelf in your pantry for a few days and be just fine. However when you add other ingredients that arent as stable, like garlic and mustard, it requires refrigeration.

Homemade Champagne Vinaigrette will last in the fridge for 2 weeks. I recommend making just what you need for the grilled salmon salad, or any salad that youre making, rather than making a big batch. Fresh is always the tastiest!

How To Grill Salmon

Smoked Salmon and Spinach Salad with Lemon Herb Dressing

You can certainly grill salmon on an outdoor grill, but for this simple salmon salad I prefer to use my indoor grill pan.

  • Heat the grill pan over medium-high heat while brushing with a little bit of olive oil.
  • Season the salmon with salt and pepper, or other seasonings that you enjoy.
  • Place fish flesh side down and cook for several minutes per side until the fish is cooked through. The proper internal temperature for grilled salmon is 145 degrees F.
  • PRO TIP If you dont have a fish spatula, I recommend picking one up. They are incredibly useful for cooking salmon and flipping other delicate foods, like salmon patties.
