How To Make Taco Salad Bowls:
Little Dairy on the Prairie Pro Tip: Before you start making the tortilla bowls, find oven-safe bowls that the tortillas will fit in. Its okay if the shells stick up a little bit over the rim of the bowl.
STEP 1: Microwave tortillas for a few seconds until they are soft. It helps keep them from tearing if theyre pliable.
STEP 2: Spray tortillas with cooking spray on both sides.
STEP 3: Set tortilla in bowls. Crumple a piece of aluminum foil in a loose ball that fits inside the tortilla.
STEP 4: Bake tortilla bowls. Let cool in the bowls before removing.
Why Did Taco Bell Discontinue The Taco Salad
Apparently they were not ordered enough? Its not cost effective anymore. As the other answer states, the shells would be fried in the morning, only to be stale and super breakable by nighttime. Its much faster to make a power bowl than a taco salad as theres not as many ingredients and the power bowl doesnt break.
Can You Make Mini Taco Bowls For Events
Of course! If you dont need to fit a whole dinner-size portion of salad in the bowl, you can make them with any size of flour tortilla you like.
Find smaller oven-safe bowls to shape the tortillas. Fry and bake for the same amount of time as with the large bowls.

Crunchy Bubbly Taco Shell Bowls
The best thing about eating a taco salad at a restaurant is the crunchy tortilla bowl. Am I right?
The golden color and crisp airy bubbles are so alluring, its hard not to break off a big chunk of bowl before ever picking up your fork!
At restaurants, taco salad bowls are made by deep-frying extra-large flour tortillas in a specially-shaped frying basket.
However, most of us dont have deep fryers at home. And if you try to just bake tortilla bowls, they come out crisp, but not puffy and bubbly.
So today Im going to teach you a quick trick to making crispy taco salad bowls at home, without a deep fryer!
Ideas And Variations For Taco Salad Bowls
Aside from the various protein alternatives to ground beef I mentioned such as chicken, turkey, sausage, or pork, there are tons of other ways to customize and personalize these taco salad bowls.
Whether its black beans, olives, jalapeno, or another ingredient that may not be popular with the whole family, feel free to simply omit things as desired.
Pickled red onions, radishes, jicama, shredded carrots, cucumbers, celery, or most fresh and crunchy vegetables work perfectly in taco salad.

Our International Gourmet Group gathered in Ogunquit, Maine for our semi-annual gathering. Our course was the appetizer and we prepared fish tacos! The mini taco shells were the perfect size for our coursewe shipped them to ourselves in Maine and they arrived in perfect conditiononly one or two damagedthey were fresh and tasty! Our fish Tacos were a big hit!
We couldnt be happier with the mini taco shells we ordered for a 150 person wedding. We are a catering company that typically makes everything from scratch and rarely order pre-made products. We were in a time crunch and decided to sample this product for an event and now we will never go back to making our own shells. These are excellent quality, super fresh and tasty. Steven was very helpful with the ordering process and assured us that we would receive the order in time, which we did. We also ordered the taco boards for passing the mini tacos and they were PERFECT. Guests were raving about the tacos and the presentation. We will continue to use these for our Crispy Pork Belly Tacos w/ Cilantro Slaw, Queso Fresco & Chipotle Crema!!
We use mini taco shells for almost every v.i.p. event. Weve experimented with other brands but always come back to the best. For ease of shipping, color and flavor- they cant be beat I wouldnt write that if I didnt mean it.
Why Is It Called Taco Salad
At Casa de Fritos, the familia would invent Doritos, another snack that people love to trash as not having any ties with Mexicans whatsoever but which are as raza as the Pyramid of the Sun. The Tacup proved popular enough with gabachos that people decided to make it biggerand thus, the taco salad was born.

How To Make Restaurant Style Fried Tortilla Bowls
I had my first fried tortilla shell taco salad at a Mexican restaurant when I was a kid and I loved it. One day my mom decided to replicate it and so she cleverly used a can inside a tortilla to shape the tortilla.
that medium or large sized flour tortillasvegetable oilglovesaluminum can
First, fill a small pot with about 3-4 inches of oil. Then take a tortilla and wrap it around a can. Be sure to remove all paper and labeling from the can.
Once you have the tortilla wrapped around, use the tongs to clamp the tortilla to the can .
Place the can/tortilla inside your pot and hold it there with the tongs for about 30 seconds .
Remove the can with the tongs. Be careful because both the can and tongs will be extremely hot. Use caution. Set aside the can.
Allow to fry for a few seconds without the can and then use the tongs to flip the shell over.
Wait about 10 seconds.
Carefully remove the shell with the tongs and set aside on a plate. If you want, you can use a paper towel underneath to drain any excess oil.
This is what the shell typically looks like.

How Do You Make Flour Tortilla Bowls In An Air Fryer
To make flour tortillas into tortilla bowls in your air fryer, youll need to create a mold in the shape of a bowl to form the tortilla while it cooks.
The best way to achieve this is by using actual bowls to shape the tortilla. Smart, huh? This method allows you to use either taco size or burrito size flour tortillas.
The most important part of this process is finding bowls that are the proper size for your tortillas. You dont want much extra tortilla hanging over the edges of the bowls because theyll go whatever direction they want and make your tortilla bowl look a lot less like a bowl!
Taco size tortillas will need smaller bowls than burrito size tortillas to make tortilla bowls in the air fryer. You can see in the photos how the tortilla fits in between the inner and outer bowls.
After 5 minutes of cooking, the tortilla has started to form its shape. However, you can see the center and outside are not quite browned.
Remove the outer bowl so that the tortilla can brown all around the outside. But leave the inner bowl so air bubbles dont form in the tortilla. Air fry for 3-4 more minutes.
If you want any additional browning, remove the inner bowl and air fry for just another minute to add a hint of brown to the inside of the bowl. Flip it over to avoid it flying around in the air fryer .
