Potato salad can be made a full day ahead as long as it is kept in the refrigerator. As with any mayonnaise-based dish from a classic macaroni salad to an egg salad, keep it cold as possible . If you are serving deviled egg potato salad on a buffet, place the bowl of salad in another bowl with ice in it to keep it cold.

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. To refresh it, simply give it a good stir and add a little extra salt and pepper!

It combines two cookout classics into one spectacular dish. Potatoes and eggs, mixed with a creamy, tangy mayo-based dressing. Classic, simple, and perfect for summer!

What’s In Deviled Egg Potato Salad

The ingredients in this recipe are kept simple and basic.

  • Potatoes. Potatoes are obviously the most necessary ingredient for potato salad. Choosing the right kind is important, too.   • Hard Boiled Eggs. Just like in deviled eggs, there are a full dozen hard boiled eggs in this deviled egg potato salad. The yolks are mixed into the dressing, and the whites are chopped and added to the salad, which makes it taste just like deviled eggs!
  • The Dressing. The dressing is a classic mayo-based dressing made the same way that I make the filling for deviled eggs, with mayo, mustard, vinegar, and relish.

      Youre also going to need hard-boiled eggs for this recipe. You can always boil them on the stovetop but I have a great and easy way to make perfect hard-boiled eggs every time.       How To Make Deviled Egg Potato Salad

      This dish tastes like part potato salad and part deviled eggs.

    • Dice and boil potatoes. Drain and allow to cool.
    • In a small bowl, mix the dressing.
    • Toss ingredients together and stir in the mayo/mustard mixture.
    • Season with salt and pepper. Right before serving, sprinkle a little paprika over the top for a pop of color! How perfect!

      Optional add-ins: Bacon, dill pickles, red onions, pimentos, chives, sweet pickles.

      How To Make Hard

      Place 10 eggs in a large pot and fill with cold water so the eggs are covered by at least an inch of water. Add in a teaspoon of vinegar and a pinch of salt.

      Heat the pot over high heat and bring the water to a rolling boil. Turn off the heat, cover, and let sit for about 12 minutes. Remove the eggs with a slotted spoon and place them in a large bowl of ice water.

      Peel the eggs. Dont worry, theyll be getting chopped up anyway, so they dont have to look perfect!

      Pro Tip: Use older eggs so theyre easier to peel.

      How To Make Hard Boiled Eggs For Potato Salad

      Place your eggs in a large pot and cover with cold water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.

      Then cover, and remove from heat. Set aside for 8-10 minutes. The eggs will continue cooking in the hot water even though they’re not over heat.

      Drain and cool in ice water. When the eggs are cool enough to handle, they’re ready to peel.

      Buffalo And Blue Cheese

      My mom and her twin sister were coming for lunch along with my Uncle Bill a couple of days ago. Mom has been asking me to grill her a decent burger so that was on the menu.

      I decided a couple of cold side dishes, that I could prepare in advance, was the way to go. Potato salad in particular is one of those things I like made a day in advance.

      I think it tastes better when the flavours have been allowed to sit for a while. I especially like potato salad to be very cold.

      There is something very off-putting to me about potato salad that is at room temperature and always has been.

      Even as a kid, when preparing a traditional Newfoundland cold plate for Sunday Supper, I almost always did the potato and pasta salads on Saturday. Sunday afternoons could be even lazier then.

      The leftover cold cuts from our Sunday roast, and the already prepared salads could just be pulled from the fridge and served in a snap.

      Potatoes. One of the main ingredients in potato salad is obviously the potatoes. It is important to pick the right potatoes because different potatoes offer different things. In this case, I am using gold potatoes. You can also use red skinned potatoes. Both of these types of potatoes have less starch than other potatoes.

      Hard Boiled Eggs. The deviled eggs part of this recipe comes in with making the dressing taste like devilled eggs. You will be mixing the yolks of the eggs into the dressing and the whites will be chopped up and added to the rest of the salad. This brings in even more of the deviled egg flavor.

      The Dressing. The dressing is a classic mayo-based dressing. It made just like making a deviled egg filling, with egg yolks, mayo, mustard and vinegar.

    • Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Boil over high heat until fork-tender, about 10 minutes. Drain under very cold water and let rest to dry.
    • As the potatoes are cooking, peel the eggs and separate the yolks from the whites. Chop the egg whites and set aside. Crush the yolks into a fine powder or use a wooden spoon to press them through a fine metal strainer into a large mixing bowl.
    • Add the mayonnaise, mustard, vinegar, garlic, salt, paprika, and pepper to the bowl with the egg yolks. Whisk to combine.

      The idea for a deviled egg potato salad was kind of a cross between egg and apple potato salad that I made while growing up. I combined that idea with a deviled egg recipe that I used years ago and a potato salad that I saw on a cooking show a while back .

      Their deviled egg potato salad had raw onion in it, which is one of the things I despise in potato salad, so that was out for me.

      In the end I just took the things that I like, tossed them together and it was exactly as I wanted it. My guests thought it was delicious too and went home with the leftovers. Mom had the leftovers from the Old Fashioned Peach Crumblethat we had for dessert too.

      The flavours are very simple and satisfying but what made the salad for me is the chopped sweet pickles. Their crunchy sweetness was great in this salad.
