Is Cobb Salad Healthy
There are so many different diets out there these days it can be hard to characterize something as healthy or unhealthy. It really depends on what kind of lifestyle you have!
But I can say for certain that this recipe is gluten-free, and low carb.
However, with the bacon, blue cheese, avocado, and olive oil in the dressing, it is not necessarily low in fat or calories. Personally, I am on Weight Watchers and this meal will cost me 15 smart points, which is kind of a lot if youre trying to lose weight .
But I have friends that are doing the keto diet, and I know from talking to them that high fat is a GOOD thing with that plan.
So you just need to know your strategy and eat accordingly. If you want more info on the nutritional value of this salad, you can find it in the recipe card below.
Chef Salad Vs Cobb Salad
When theyre side by side, chef sand cobb salads have a lot of things in common. Both feature a variety of fresh veggies, can be served as a main dish, and are traditionally topped with a vinaigrette. The main differences come from the complexity of the ingredients and the presentation.
Chef salads are typically made with simple ingredients, like chopped tomatoes, cucumbers, cheddar cheese, and ham. Cobb salads on the other hand feature more high-end ingredients like bacon, chicken, hard boiled eggs, avocado, and fancy cheeses. All of these toppings are lined in rows or simply placed on top of a cobb salad, making for an exciting presentation.

You can make the salad and the dressing 2-3 hours ahead of your dinner. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate. Keep the salad and dressing separate until ready to serve. Here are some make-ahead tips:
- Dressing make this in a mason jar so you can shake it well just before serving in case it separates. Serve it right out of the mason jar.
- Lettuce can be rinsed and dried ahead , then refrigerate until ready to use.
- Avocado should be sliced shortly before serving since avocado tends to discolor when it comes in contact with air.
- Chicken Breast can be pre-cooked and chilled .
- Bacon can be browned ahead. Drain on paper towels and refrigerate until ready to use.
- Eggs can be made several days in advance. Cook hard-boiled eggs and refrigerate until ready to use.
This Chicken Cobb Salad is easy to assemble but sure looks stunning when served. Everything about this salad is good! This homemade version blows the Chick Fil a Cobb Salad and Cheesecake Factorys salad out of the water.
Are Salads Back On Mcdonalds Menu 2021
McDonalds is planning to keep salads, bagels and yogurt parfaits off its menus for the foreseeable future after the coronavirus pandemic led the company to shrink its offerings. The fast-food chain told U.S. franchisees that it plans to add back seven items throughout July, but dozens more will remain off of the menu.

What Goes On A Chicken Cobb Salad
Most cobb salad recipes start with romaine lettuce before layering on the rows of sliced chicken breast, corn, bacon, hard boiled eggs, and avocado. To give my recipe some extra flare, I added sugar snap peas, radishes, chives, goat cheese, and a tangy homemade vinaigrette.
I find this combination of fresh and filling ingredients makes this exciting summer salad totally filling and satisfying. There arent many rules when it comes to cobb salad, so feel free to add more toppings or mix things up!

A Guide To Making Cobb Salad The Way It Was Meant To Be
Despite falling under the considerably stuffy-sounding category of “composed salads,” one that doesn’t exactly scream fun, a Cobb Salad done right should never be a complicated affair. In my favorite of its various origin stories, the Cobb Salad was devised as a way to make a meal out of leftovers: A hungry man entered the kitchen of the Hollywood Brown Derby, a chain restaurant in Los Angeles, ’round about midnight on an ordinary day in 1937, and rummaged through the fridge.
Maybe the ravenous scavenger was the restaurant’s chef, one Paul J. Posti more likely, it was the owner, one Robert Howard Cobb . In any case, he found cooked bacon and chicken, boiled eggs, blue cheese, a smattering of fresh vegetables and lettuces, and cobbled them together to make a meal.
This combination is the purists’ Cobb: predictable, with all ingredients finely chopped and sprinkled in rows across the lettuce bed, a fortifying meal despite its prim appearance. Like Larry David’s dinner companion, the self-proclaimed grandson of the the Cobb’s inventor, you’d expect this compositionparticularly the presence of bacon, egg, grilled chicken, and blue cheeseupon ordering a Cobb at any restaurant.
It is safe bet on a strange menu, as reliably decent as onion soup.

Classic Cobb Salad Dressing Recipe

We absolutely love leafy green salads, and while this dressing is a classic cobb salad dressing recipe, it would excellent on just about any salad such as my Shave Brussels Sprout Salad or Green Goddess.
How To Make Cobb Salad Dressing
Cobb salad dressing is easy to make. It starts with an oil and vinegar base with a little lemon for brightness. Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard and garlic add flavor while a hint of sugar tempers acidity and rounds out flavors.
You can whisk the dressing together or shake it in a jar, but I prefer to use an immersion blender to emulsify the ingredients. This results in a nice thick creamy dressing.

How To Store Cobb Salad
- In the fridge: cover and store your Cobb salad in the fridge for up to 3 – 5 days. Store your salad without dressing to avoid the lettuce becoming soggy.
- In the freezer: it’s not recommended to freeze this recipe as there are many fresh ingredients that will lose their texture.
PRO TIP: use a salad spinner to spin your lettuce and remove any moisture before assembling your salad. This will keep your lettuce fresher for longer.
- 2tablespoonsred wine vinegar
- 1tablespoondijon mustard
Chicken Cobb Salad Dressing
This hearty chicken cobb salad is best served with a lighter, tangy vinaigrette. My homemade cobb vinaigrette features sharp red wine vinegar and spicy Dijon mustard to help balance all of the other flavors and textures nicely.

Cobb Salad Dressing Variations
There are many variations for Cobb salad dressing. Some people use avocado and water to replace the oil, and add a little cumin and cayenne for a Mexican flavor. Other recipes call for balsamic vinegar instead of red wine vinegar or use more mustard in the dressing.
Sometimes, restaurants serve their Cobb salad with ranch or blue cheese dressing. I often serve our Cobb salad with a quick and dirty mayonnaise based dressing which includes white vinegar and a little sweetener. Its the same dressing I use on my raw broccoli salad.
Can Cobb Salad Be Made Ahead
You can make all the components ahead, and assemble the salad, with the exception of the avocado.
As Im sure you know, avocado tends to turn color pretty quickly after its been sliced into. So I would save that for just before serving, and pour on the dressing at that time too. That way, the lettuce wont wilt.
So definitely let me know what you think of this recipe, and how you feel about savory dishes here on Baking a Moment. I really like sharing them. Its fun for me to have that variety, and I hope youre enjoying it too!
