How To Prepare Quinoa

3 Healthy Quinoa Salad Recipes | Weight Loss |
  • In a pot/sieve, rinse the quinoa in running water until the water is no longer opaque and drain well.
  • Put the quinoa into a pot, fill with double the amount of water , and bring it to a boil.
  • Once boiling, place on a lid to cover and reduce the heat to medium. Let the quinoa simmer for 15 minutes or until it has completely absorbed the water.
  • Open the lid, stir it up. Remove the pot from the heat and let the quinoa cool completely before tossing in the salad.
  • This method is the traditional way of making a batch of nice, fluffy quinoa in a boiling pot. Alternatively, you can also yield a similar result using an Instant Pot see our guide on how to cook quinoa in an Instant Pot.

To prevent either crunchy or mushy quinoa, here are a few things you need to keep in mind when cooking:

    • Quinoa can cause bitterness if not rinsed carefully. This is because of the saponins that occur naturally on the exterior. Always rinse quinoa under running water and make sure you drain it well.
    • Quinoa expands and becomes fluffy when cooked, so dont fill the cooking pot to the brim, leave some room.
    • A smaller amount of quinoa means shorter cooking time. So you need to keep an eye on the boiling time and check its fluffiness to know when to remove it from the heat.

This is probably the healthiest and best leftover salad ever.

I made it last week when I found myself drown in work, gasping for air and for something to eat.

Like most of us, I of course had no time to eat, and even less time to cook or to go buy groceries.

Luckily I found a jar of cooked quinoa Ive been just moving from one place to another for 3 days in my fridge, trying to get to my overnight oats.

Ding ding ding! Lunch is ready: quinoa salad! I did not have all the ingredients to make my quinoa detox salad, so I invented a new somewhat leftover detox salad thats perfect for summer.

I used very basic ingredients, whatever I had at home. And I must say, this quinoa salad tastes amazing.

You will feel satisfied, yet light and will be able to do some more work after lunch. Personally it made me feel a little like Superwoman, because I did not need to take a nap on my desk this time. Finally!!! Who knew this is possible? And who knew that such a simple salad can taste like heaven?

I also had some feta cheese leftovers in my fridge, so I crumbled them and threw them into the salad. If you are vegan or live dairy-free, just dont add it.

And this salad is of course as all recipes at Beauty Bites great for your skin.

    Can You Freeze Quinoa Salad

Our quinoa salad contains fresh ingredients such as carrots, peas, broccoli, walnuts, and avocado. As a matter of fact, we dont recommend putting this quinoa salad in the freezer.

If you freeze quinoa salad, the ingredients will lose their original texture and flavors after thawing, thus lowering the overall quality. You can, however, freeze cooked quinoa separately and it will last for about one month. Then when you want to use it, simply thaw it and toss it with the other ingredients.

Substitutions For Healthy Tabbouleh Quinoa Salad

    Weight Loss Quinoa

Here are the substitutions I recommend for this salad. Please remember that when you make substitutions or omissions it will change the nutritional values of the recipe that you see below in the recipe card.

    • Quinoa Brown rice, bulgur or lentils could be substituted. Broccoli rice or cauliflower rice could be substituted for a low carb or Paleo version.
    • Mint Can be omitted.
    • Parsley The parsley is the key ingredient that makes this a Tabbouleh salad. If you have an aversion to parsley, I recommend swapped with a leafy green like kale, red chard, watercress, collard greens, spinach or cabbage. I recommend finely chopping them like you would the parsley.
    • Oregano Can be omitted, but omitting it will make this salad flavorless. The oregano really is key for flavor.
    • Red Onion White onion or scallions can be substituted.
    • Grape Tomatoes Any tomato variety can be used.
    • Red Wine Vinegar The red wine vinegar, like the oregano, is really key to the flavor of this salad. You could replace with champagne vinegar or white vinegar, but the flavor will not be the same.
    • Cucumber Zucchini or eggplant could be substituted.
    • Additions Olives, artichokes and feta cheese would make wonderful additions!

    High In Complete Protein

Adding quinoa to your daily diet makes shedding those extra pounds a lot easier because its loaded with protein. Protein is immensely effective in helping you feel full for longer, meaning you wont go prowling the kitchen pantry soon after for an unhealthy snack. Its impossible to lose weight if youre constantly feeling like you are starving thats a huge reason why most diets fail. A diet needs to be successful in helping the individual feel satiated otherwise, they are likely to give up in frustration.

Studies have shown that eating snacks high in protein can help curb your appetite for more extended periods of time. And to make that even better, protein-rich foods have a high TEF, Thermic Effect of Food. In short, it takes a lot of energy to break down the protein for your body to absorb. This is huge in terms of losing weight.

However, the most exciting thing about the protein in quinoa is that its considered a complete protein. This means that it has all nine essential amino acids. Why is this such a huge deal? But, first, lets back up a moment.

Complete proteins can fill you up to eat less and may also trigger a hormone that makes you less hungry. And some studies have found that when you are dieting, high levels of complete protein may target fat loss while preserving your muscle mass.
