Heres A Few Of My Best Tips For A Chipotle Low Carb Burrito Bowl:
- Start with a salad bowl and skip the dressing
- Ask for half portions of whatever rice and beans you want instead of the full scoops. They also now have cauliflower rice so you can choose that too.
- Skip the corn salsa and opt for a tomato based one.
- Add the guac! Those blood sugar balancing plant based fats are not only delicious but also helpful for possibly preventing any post-meal blood sugar imbalances.
Best Protein Choices At Chipotle
I love that all of the meat made at Chipotle is made fresh and without any added sugars or glazes. This keeps the net carb amounts nice and low.
My personal favorite to bulk up a meal is to add extra meat such as chicken breasts or ground beef which adds 0g carbs and plenty of quality protein. I call this a double protein bowl.
Meat is such a good option . It keeps your carb count low and stable blood sugars.

So, as I mentioned, there are a ton of Chipotle keto options to choose from to create your meal.
But before we get into how to construct your order, let’s go over all of the keto friendly ingredients and the ones that you’ll want to avoid.
Oh, and I will be giving the total net carbs for each ingredient, and they were calculated using the Chipotle Nutrition Calculator on their website. This calculator makes it simple to find out how many carbs are in each ingredient and your entire order to ensure you’re sticking to a keto lifestyle.
Chipotle has a variety of keto friendly protein options to choose from for the base of your order.
Here are the best ones:
- Carnitas: 0 NET CARBS
- Steak: 0 NET CARBS
- Barbacoa: 1 NET CARB
So, as you can see, all the protein options at Chipotle are as low carb as it gets.
The only protein option you’ll want to avoid is the Sofritas since it has 6 NET CARBS and isn’t great for the keto diet. Having said that, you can order it, but you’ll just be limited by the other ingredients you can add in if you want to keep your order low carb.

Just a note: their guacamole has 8g of carbs per serving, making it the highest carb of all the “acceptable” food options. It’s probably best to stick to only one serving when ordering it.

I used to live in Denver, Colorado and one of my favorite restaurants to grab a quick to-go meal was Chipotle Mexican Grill. My go-to order was a veggie burrito with black beans, rice topped with Chipotles spicy salsa, sour cream, and guacamole. I was definitely NOT eating keto at Chipotle back then.
The restaurant was founded in Denver in 1993 by Steven Ells and as grown into a nationwide chain that is now a publicly-traded company. Chiptole also had some serious investment money from McDonalds at one point.
Although most people may think of the Chipotle burritos with white rice and beans as the main fare at the restaurant, there is a good number of ways to eat low carb and keto at Chipotle.
In fact, Chipotle is experimenting with diving deeper into the low-carb, keto menu as just announced in July 2020 that they will be testing a cauliflower rice option in several markets with plans to possibly roll out the lower-carb alternative to Chipotle restaurant locations nationwide depending on the response.

If you dont want the Chipotle Keto Salad Bowl, just create your own bowl or salad using this simple formula:
Order a salad, or a bowl without rice and beans.
Add fajita veggies, if you like.
Pick any protein except sofritas.
Add some fats, like cheese, guacamole, sour cream, and/or queso..
Finish with any salsa except the roasted chile-corn salsa.
Use this formula to create lots of tasty keto combos!
Choosing one option from each category, you can get a spicy, delicious keto meal for a maximum of 13.5 net grams carbs. Skip the fajita veggies and were talking only 9.5 net grams carbs!
