Three Rules For Making A Pasta Salad

Tuna Egg Pasta Mayo | Easy Salad Recipes
  • Dont overcook the pasta.
  • Rinse the cooked pasta in cold water. Normally you wouldnt do this with pasta, but its necessary when preparing a pasta salad to keep the pasta from cooking further. Cool the pasta completely before making the salad.
  • Choose your brand of pasta carefully. Although pasta is cheap, spend a few extra pennies on a name brand that you trust.

Protein Packed Tuna Salad

I happen to like tuna salad and I also like a classic egg salad. So basically, weve got the best of both worlds coming together in this easy recipe!

I love a high-protein, easy lunch but some days , I dont have a lot of time.

I mean seriously, who has time to cook elaborate meals these days? Between work, errands, and taking care of our families, we barely have enough time for fancy pants meals.

So yes, simple is key but lets be honest. Some days we need more to look forward to than a plain old sandwich.

Meet your new meal solution Tuna Salad with Egg.

Tuna Salad is awesome when youre making packed lunches for the field or just need something quick and easy.

It has 29 grams of protein, so youll be satisfied until dinner.

How To Make A Tuna Melt Sandwich

  • Place the bread and tuna on the skillet. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and butter both outer sides of each slice of whole wheat bread. Place one buttered slice of bread onto the hot skillet and lay a generous layer of the tuna salad mixture on top.
  • Add the cheese. Then place a slice of cheese then place the other buttered piece of bread on top.
  • Flip it. Once the bottom of the tuna melt is golden brown, flip it over and brown the other side the same way. Remove the tuna melt from heat and consume while warm.

Albacore Vs Chunk Light Tuna

While this recipe calls for albacore tuna, you could use chunk light as an alternative. Albacore offers large, meaty pieces and has an excellent texture. If youre looking for a large forkful of meaty tuna while enjoying your Easy Tuna Egg Salad, then albacore is where its at.

The alternative is a lighter, softer option. Canned chunk light has more water and the pieces are significantly smaller and flakier. Its a cost-effective option that will still produce a delicious salad.

Serving Your Tuna Egg Salad

Tuna & Egg Salad (not niçoise!)

This is a beautiful, fresh meal that I personally love to prep and pack for lunches for my husband and I throughout the week.

If you opt to pack up your Easy Tuna Egg Salad for school or work lunches, grab a mason or Weck jar. Add a couple scoops of the tuna egg salad, then top with fresh greens and vegetables. I personally love arugula for its peppery flavor and ability to withstand moisture, unlike romaine or spinach.

If you want to mix it up throughout the week, use the tuna egg salad in wraps or sandwiches, or enjoy with crackers for a low-carb, protein-full snack.

Avoid the panic of whipping together a subpar lunch and quickly prep this delicious, nutritious EASY TUNA EGG SALAD instead!

A Little Of My Cooking Background

I really wanted to title this blog If I can make it, anyone can, because honestly if I can make it, anyone can.

I never really liked cooking and when I was single, a meal for me meant grilled cheese, eggs, tuna, or something else that didnt require effort or time.

When my kids were young, I was still able to get away with preparing only a small variety of easy meals, but the older they got, the more dishes I learned to make at their request.

Still, I insisted on keeping it simple.

Honestly, I never understood why some cooks unnecessarily complicate meals. I have seen recipes that have several ingredients that dont really seem to add much, if anything, to the dish. So, why bother?

It has always been important to me that whoever eats at my table will have plenty to enjoy and that includes my kids and, because I keep it simple, I can prepare a variety of dishes in a relatively short period of time.

I have a philosophy regarding being a great cook: Prepare food according to the tastes of those who will be eating it and they will love your cooking!

As far as I am concerned, start with the basic ingredients that make the dish what it is, adapt according to taste, and voila! you are an amazing cook!

The bottom line is that while there are certainly delicate recipes out there for specialty dishes, making delicious meals doesnt have to be complicated or time consuming. Its not difficult to impress just make sure it tastes good.

Ingredients For Tuna Salad Recipe

Easy Tuna Salad with Egg [Large Bowl]

Healthy tuna salad takes only 15 minutes of prep. Simply mix the ingredients, then place in the refrigerator to chill.

  • Canned tuna: Canned tuna divides into 2 main categories: packed in oil or water. Then pick from based on your budget: Albacore tuna has less fishy taste and white meaty texture or yellowfin/skipjack/light tuna is tan to pink in color and has more strong fish taste. Lastly, the texture: chunky or whole.

Tuna Tip

I always buy canned light tuna packed in water as I do not see a need for extra oil as we drain it anyways. Also chunky one vs. whole because its cheaper.

  • Mayo + plain Greek yogurt: The best combination to get that traditional tuna salad taste but with less calories. Use mayo made with avocado oil and Greek yogurt with at least 2% fat for the tastiest Greek yogurt tuna salad results. You can omit mayonnaise though.
  • Dill pickles: Add a briny taste with sweet and sour notes that really make this tuna recipe outstanding.
  • Celery and red onion: Add crunch with bold earthy and sweet taste.
  • Fresh garlic: Because garlic is always a must in any dish, hands down.
  • Lemon juice: Adds tang and brightness.
