Rule #: Think Before You Cheese

Some cheeses work well in pasta salads. Fresh cheese like fresh mozzarella, feta, and ricotta, for example, are all good options. Very firm ones, too, like grated or shaved Parmesan, can be excellent. But any cheeses that are extra-gooey or semi-hard have no place in a pasta salad. Cut into cubes and coated in oil or sauce, they become grotesque little nuggets of slimy, sweaty dairy. Avoid!

Rules In Action: How To Make Delicious Macaroni Salad With Chorizo And Roasted Piquillo Peppers

I’ll be sharing a handful of pasta salad recipes over the next couple of weeks to demonstrate some of the principles above. First up is a Spanish-inspired pasta salad with sautéed chorizo, garlic, and roasted piquillo peppers.

I started with pasta made for fideuà, a paella-like Spanish dish that uses pasta instead of rice. The kind I got were very short, thin, hollow macaroni with a slight curve. You can absolutely substitute regular macaroni or another short, hollow pasta shape, like ditalini.

I cooked the pasta until well done and completely tender throughout, a few minutes longer than the al dente stage.

Then I diced up some Spanish chorizo and cooked it in a skillet to until the fat rendered and the sausage crisped up nicely.

Toward the end of cooking, I tossed in some minced garlic, just to amp up the flavor a bit.

I also minced some onion and set it in a bit of sherry vinegar to quickly pickle, which takes about 15 minutes. You can let it stand longer, it’ll just get more and more tender as it sits. These onions give us little pops of acidity in the pasta salad without having the pasta itself taste tart.

To finish the pasta, I toss the chilled noodles with the crispy chorizo and its garlicky oil, some fresh extra-virgin oil oil, those pickled onions, and plenty of chopped parsley, sliced scallions, and grated lemon zest to perk the dish upthese are the bright flavors I want instead of lots of vinegar.

I guarantee it, this is a pasta salad worth eating.

    Huge Variety And Selection

The online platforms around the world are growing exponentially in size, and that applies to the selection of products as well. As they get more popular, more and more brands sign up to sell their products on online platforms.

They have a wide range of products across many categories, divided and organized well. This helps you find exactly what you are looking for easily. You may even get software-generated recommendations for products you may need. This includes pasta salad recipes and many more.

Having a huge variety means that you can assess your preferences and choices. You can choose from a range of alternatives before purchasing. This is often not the case in most physical stores, where there is a limitation to the number of brands.

Rule #1 Subsection A: Sauce It Don’t Dress It

How I make Spaghetti Pasta Salad

Hear the word salad, and you’re likely to think that a vinaigrette, or at least a tangy cream dressing, is required. That’s usually true, but not with pasta salad…at least not if you want it to be good. Vinegar and other acidic ingredients do strange things to the flavor of pasta when used in salad-level amounts. Ever notice an irritating acerbic aftertaste just about every time you’ve eaten pasta salad? That’s the vinegar announcing itself, and it’s not pleasant.

Instead, create sauced pastasyou know, the kind you’d eat hotthat just happen to perform well even when cooled to room temperature. Most of the time, that means olive oil-based sauces, not buttery ones or meat-heavy ragùs, which might form a gritty, congealed-fat texture as they cool. That doesn’t mean you can’t use any meat, though: Take the chorizo-infused recipe I’m sharing today, for example, which blends olive oil with the rendered fat and crispy bits of diced Spanish sausage without any negative consequences.

If you want to add a hit of acidity to your pasta salad, consider adding a small amount of pickled vegetables to the mix instead of infusing the pasta itself with all that tanginess.

Also isnt it time to put together a conversation jar? How much do your kids know about you? What was your phone like growing up? A little different from the ones we have now. Our phone was one of those that you put your finger in and rotate the round ring on the front. There were no push buttons.

We were lucky, we had a long cord on our phone, so we could take the phone around the corner and go into the closet to have just a little privacy. Well let me tell you that that would only last until the neighbors needed the phone.

Yes, we had a party line and we had to share the phone with 2 or 3 other neighbors. It was the worst when they would leave their phone off the hook and we needed to use the phone. They didnt even know that their phone was off the hook sometimes.

    Dressing Your Pasta Salad Twice

The secret to making delicious pasta salad in advance is to dress it twice. The first time should be when the pasta is still warm so it can easily absorb the dressing. Only add about half of the amount of dressing you usually would and think of it as a marinade. The pasta, vegetables, and cheeses get time to absorb the dressing and take on additional flavor. They absorb the seasoning from the dressing, ensuring every bite is as flavorful as possible.

The second time you dress it should be right before you serve the salad. Think of this as your final dressing step, adding moisture, shine, and an additional layer of flavor. At this point the pasta salad will have absorbed all of the dressing from the first time you dressed it, so it desperately needs more. This prevents it from being dry and flavorless and gives it a big, bold flavor making it taste as fresh as the first day you made it. It might seem like a waste of time to dress it twice, but its truly worth the extra effort. Trust me.

Should You Rinse Pasta For Pasta Salad

    Quick and Easy Pasta Salad

Do not rinse the pasta, though. The starch in the water is what helps the sauce adhere to your pasta. Rinsing pasta will cool it and prevent absorption of your sauce. The only time you should ever rinse your pasta is when you are going to use it in a cold dish like a pasta salad.

First things first, when it comes to making pasta salad you want to cook your pasta so it is cool when you mix in all the other ingredients.

Pasta salad is only as good as the pasta you are using to make it! I love using Ronzoni® pasta in my recipes because it is non-GMO and is so delicious.

For this pasta salad recipe, I usedRonzoni Garden Delight® because I love the beautiful colors of the pasta when it is tossed together with all the vegetables. I also love that just 4 ounces of Ronzoni Garden Delight® has a serving of vegetables!

This pasta is enriched with dried carrot, tomato and spinach and tastes so amazing that my kids didnt even realize they were eating extra veggies.

While my pasta was cooking, I chopped up all the other ingredients going in my homemade pasta salad. I added pepperoni, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, red bell pepper, green bell pepper, red onion, sliced olives and Colby Jack cheese.

I drained and rinsed my pasta after it was done cooking. If you rinse your pasta with cold water it will wash away extra starches so your pasta doesnt stick and it cools it down so you can toss it in with the other ingredients. You dont want to melt that cheese with warm noodles!

Once your pasta is rinsed and cool, toss it with the prepped vegetables in a large mixing bowl and pour Italian dressing on top.

Toss until all the pasta salad ingredients are evenly coated in dressing.
