How to make low fat lemon yogurt salad dressing Recipe

Unlike many other vinaigrettes and salad dressings, theres no oil in this one, so no need to worry about emulsifying the dressing . Just combine all of the ingredients in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. If you have animmersion blender, use that to blend everything together in a jar or small bowl.

As noted above, the thickness of the dressing will change depending on the type of yogurt you use. If using a thick type of yogurt, you may need to add a tiny bit of water to thin the dressing out.

The most important step is to taste the finished dressing and adjust to your preferences. Depending on the type of herbs you use, you may want to alter the flavors to add some sweetness from more honey or more sour flavor from lemon juice.

How To Make The Fruit Salad Yogurt Dressing

Using yogurt creates a light, creamy dressing that ties your fruit salad together. I find this dressing compliments the fruit much better than the overly sweet and syrupy dressings used in some conventional fruit salads.

I love yogurt because it doesn’t overpower the flavor of your fruit or make it seem sticky.

This recipe has a lot of room for customization, but I would really stick with regular, plain yogurt for the dressing.

Although the flavor of Greek yogurt works, I find the texture a bit too thick. Similarly, fruit yogurt would probably taste okay, but the color might not look as nice.

Of course, you can adjust the sweetness by using more or less honey.

What Is Caesar Salad Dressing Made Of

Classic Caesar dressing is thick and creamy, a result of blending together egg yolks and oil. Our homemade dressing is made without eggs or any mayo, which a lot of times is used to achieve the same creaminess.

Instead, its made with Greek yogurt with a little bit of milk and olive oil to achieve the same effect. Then flavored with Parmesan cheese, anchovies, garlic, fresh lemon juice, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce.

Before you ask if anchovies are necessary and the answer is yes! Anchovies add the tangy, salty, rich flavor and are essential to our yogurt Caesar dressing. Without the anchovies, the dressing tastes too flat.

A Better Raw Broccoli

I know some people have a hard no! stance on raw broccoli. Im pro raw broccoli in salads as long as its had time to marinate and soften slightly. Its not so much the stems that bothers me I actually like the crisp freshness of the stems. Its the florets. Theyre just kind of dry and crumbly when raw.

Solution:

a) give the salad time to marinate in the creamy lemon dressing which slightly tenderises the broccoli. Both the acid and the oil in the dressing helps here and

b) slicing the florets thickly rather than leaving them whole. More surface area = better marinating effect to take the hard raw edge off the broccoli.

Patience Is A Virtue I Struggle With

This is one of those salads that is best made the day before or at the very least 2 hours before serving.

I dont deal with this well. I pick at it constantly straight after making it and am always disappointed with how it tastes, and I fret that its not going to taste great.

Have patience my friends. Let time work its magic, let those flavours meld together, let the dressing marinate the broccoli. Its so worth it! Nagi x

PS If youre in a rush, Id recommend steaming the broccoli. Steam, rather than boil you want to avoid water soaked florets. It will ruin the creamy dressing experience.

This Is A Healthy Fruit Recipe For Kids

This is a wonderful fruit salad recipe for toddlers and older kids. In fact, I like to keep a bowl in the fridge for my toddler who loves to snack.

Fruit salad is a great option if you want to encourage your kids to eat a variety of fruit. The creamy yogurt dressing might even encourage the pickiest eaters to eat more fruit!

This salad is refined sugar-free, but it does contain sugar from honey. It’s easy to reduce the amount of honey you use in this recipe if you want to limit the sugar.

Leave the honey out completely if any children under one will be snacking on this fruit salad.

A healthier version of Americas most popular salad dressing! Usually made with mayonnaise and buttermilk, this healthier Ranch Dressing is made with Greek Yogurt and olive oil, plus a good dose of Ranch Dressing seasonings.

Ranch Dressing is so good, I use it as an all purpose dressing for anything that usually calls for a creamy dressing, from garden salads to pasta salads and corn salad.

But my favourite is to use it for what I call a SouthWest Salad, pictured below. Lettuce, cherry tomatoes, corn, black beans, red onion, optional chicken and bacon, drizzled with this Yogurt Ranch Dressing. Its so good!!

Health Benefits Of Lettuce

Lettuce is one of the most widely consumed vegetables worldwide, but its nutritional value has been underestimated. Lettuce is low in calories, fat and sodium. It is a good source of fiber, iron, folate, and vitamin C.

Lettuce is also a good source of various other health-beneficial bioactive compounds. In vitro and in vivo studies have shown anti-inflammatory, cholesterol-lowering, and anti-diabetic activities attributed to the bioactive compounds in lettuce.

However, nutrient composition and bioactive compounds vary among lettuce types. Crisphead lettuce, the most popular type of lettuce in the US, is comparatively low in minerals, vitamins, and bioactive compounds.

More nutritious lettuces are leaf type lettuce and romaine with folate content comparable to other rich leafy vegetable sources.

Red pigmented lettuce contains higher phenolic compounds than green lettuce. Due to increasing popularity, the nutrient contents in baby lettuce were also examined.

Baby green romaine was especially high in vitamin C. In this review composition and nutritional value of different lettuce types were summarized, which can help growers and consumers choose lettuce types with higher nutritional benefits.

How Do You Make A Good Fruit Salad

The key players of a good fruit salad are:

  • A good fruit mixture – choose fruit that blends well together and won’t turn mushy too quickly. Cut fruit so they are uniform in size.
  • A tasty dressing – something light and sweet.
  • The dressing is my favorite part of this healthy fruit salad recipe. Mixing plain yogurt with honey creates a dressing that is creamy, but also a perfect combination of tangy and sweet.

Most importantly, this yogurt dressing won’t overpower the flavors of the fruit.

How To Make Fruit Salad For Kids

To make fruit salad for kids, it’s most important to:

    • use healthy ingredients that are also kid-friendly and
    • use fruits that kids enjoy eating.

Yogurt is is healthy for kids, and makes a nice dressing on the fruit.

This kid-friendly recipe also uses familiar fruits that kids often already love. Moreover, I cut the fruit so it’s easier for little mouths to pick up on a spoon and eat. Other fruits like pomegranate seeds might be more difficult for small children.

For kids, make sure to cut the grapes in half. I would even recommend cutting grapes into quarters for kids under four.

    Plenty Of Lighter Mayo Dressing

This dressing is made with a combination of mayonnaise, sour cream or yoghurt, lemon and milk, plus flavourings. The sour cream or yoghurt act as a thickener with a touch of acidity and the milk thins out the dressing, making it pourable for better coverage and so the florets soak up the dressing like a sponge. Plenty of dressing flavourings compensate for using less mayonnaise.

What Are The Best Fruits For This Healthy Fruit Salad Recipe

How To Make Fruit Salad With Yogurt Dressing

It’s important to choose fruits with flavors that compliment each other. In other words, you don’t want to mix too many fruits with overpowering flavors. The fruits I like to use in this recipe are:

    • Strawberries
    • Grapes

I love using these fruits because they taste great together, they provide just the right amount of crunch and juiciness, and the colors are beautiful together.

Broccoli Salad With Lighter Creamy Dressing

I like my Broccoli Salad with slightly softened bite rather than a hard raw crunch, and plenty of dressing thats not excessively mayo-heavy. The dressing is still creamy, but its a lightened up mayo based dressing with fantastic flavourings and theres plenty of it!

For an even healthier option, try this Broccoli Salad with a mayo-free Creamy Lemon Dressing or Ranch Dressing, or this Broccoli Salad with Sour Cream dressing!

The mere mention of Broccoli Salad conjures up visions of giant bowls of broccoli swimming in oily mayo dressing thats often too sweet. Just the thought makes my thighs start expanding.

How Do You Cut Strawberries For Fruit Salad

I always start by cutting off the hull of the strawberry. Next, I look at the size of the strawberry. If the strawberry is small, I simply cut it in half. In contrast, I cut larger strawberries into quarters.

The goal is to cut the strawberries to match the size of the clementine slices.

TIP: If you really want to make the colors pop, you can cut off the white parts in the strawberry core so your fruit salad is more vibrant.

    What Is Vegetable Salad

    Green salad

A green salad or garden salad is most often composed of leafy vegetables such as lettuce varieties, spinach, or rocket . If non-greens make up a large portion of the salad it may instead be called a vegetable salad. Common raw vegetables used in a salad include cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, onions, carrots, celery, radishes, mushrooms, avocado, olives, artichoke hearts, heart of palm, watercress, parsley, garden beets, and green beans. Nuts, berries, seeds, and flowers are less common components. Hard-boiled eggs, bacon, shrimp, and cheeses may be used as garnishes, but large amounts of animal-based foods would be more likely in a dinner salad.

    Wedge salad

A wedge salad is a green salad made from a head of lettuce , halved or quartered, with other ingredients on top.

    Greek Yogurt Salad Dressing

So I have come to realize that I am somewhat of a dressing snob. There are people that prefer ranch and people who prefer Italian, but honestly I love them ALL and I prefer them homemade!

As you can see here in my Roasted Jalapeno and Onion Dressing, Cilantro Lime Dressing, Sweet Miso Ginger Dressing and many others.

What is Greek yogurt dressing? Essentially, it is just any dressing recipe that uses Greek yogurt instead of mayonnaise.

This particular recipe uses flavors similar to a traditional Greek salad recipe , but with a creamy twist however, there are many other variations such as a Greek Yogurt Ranch or Greek Yogurt Honey Mustard.

    Tips For Making The Ranch

How to make yogurt cheese salad dressing Recipe
    • The recipe calls for using either fresh or dried herbs, making it a great year-round recipe. You can use whatever you have. Since my garden is going so well this year, I used fresh herbs in this version. It packs a lot of flavors too. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
    • If you have picky kids this recipe is the perfect addition to a salad or veggie plate. They’ll never know you made the swap.
    • The type of greek yogurt you pick for this salad dressing will determine the calorie count and creaminess. Higher fat yogurt will be creamier but lower fat will have fewer calories.
    • The base for this healthy dressing is basically just Greek yogurt and milk. The milk thins it out a bit and you can adjust the amount of milk you put in to adapt for what you are using it for. Want a thinner salad dressing? Use more milk! Want a thicker ranch dip? Use less! Either way, you make it, it’s delicious!
