Growing Up With Condensed Milk Mayonnaise

We grew up with Mums condensed milk mayonnaise. There was always a Tupperware container in the fridge ready to smear on an egg salad sandwich. Considering we grew up on a poultry farm there were always, always tonnes of eggs ..

Anyways, as this mayonnaise was always on hand it was perfect for after school sandwiches.

Crusty white sourdough bread smeared with mayonnaise, cold thinly sliced iceberg lettuce, thin slices of tomato and cucumber, salt, pepper and some shaved ham makes for a perfect sandwich.

Why Should I Choose A Low

Low-sodium salad dressings can be used as part of an overall healthy diet. The USDAs recommended daily sodium allowance is fewer than 2,300 milligrams per day. Salad dressings can be hidden sources of extra salt since store-bought dressings are often heavily processed.

Continuously consuming too much sodium can potentially lead to health problems, including fluid retention and high blood pressure. Sustained high blood pressure and hypertension can lead to serious consequences such as stroke and heart disease.

However, incorporating more low-sodium foods into your diet doesn’t always mean you have to compromise on taste. Several low-sodium salad dressings, for instance, can offer robust, natural flavors. Vinaigrettes often offer a range of citrus, fruit, and natural spice notes that won’t leave you missing the taste of salt.

    Sid And Lisas Creamy Balsamic

Probably the most common salad dressing out there, and typically vegan, the balsamic is a go-to of mine at restaurants. But what if you could make a healthier version at home?

Health Made Simple co-creator Sid Garza-Hillman and his wife Lisa created their own oil-free version, replacing the oil with cashews to keep the fats up and add an extra creaminess.

    How to Use It:

This goes well with just about any standard salad, but really pops with your traditional Italian flavors. But really, you cant go wrong to have it on hand for whatever ends up on your salad plate.

    The Recipe:

    • 1 cup cashews
    • 1 1/2 cup water

Blend all ingredients until creamy. Add additional salt/pepper to taste.

This one I have around most of the time because it always hits the spot. This is great on salads with berries and other sweet fruits in them, it compliments them nicely. How Long Will The Dressing Last

Low & No Sodium Condiments Tagged " Mayonnaise"

    Creamy Vegan Caesar Dressing

Caesar dressing instantly takes me back to my childhood. It was the salad I ordered most often, mostly because of the creamy dressing and crunchy croutons.

But while most vegan Caesar dressings are loaded with oil and vegan mayo, theres a simple way to make it oil-free, and its actually really tasty.

    How to Use It:

I tend to stick with the classic Caesar salad: Romain lettuce, vegan parm, and croutons. While not the most nutritious salad, you really cant go wrong with a Caesar.

    The Recipe:

    • 1/2 Tbsp soy or vegan Worcestershire sauce
    • 1/2 tsp of lemon zest
    • 2 tsp capers, mashed with a bit of juice
    • 1 tsp maple syrup
    • salt and pepper to taste

In a blender combine all the ingredients except for the lemon zest, capers, and salt and pepper. Blend until youve reached the desired thickness.

In a bowl, empty the dressing from the blender and mix in the remaining ingredients.

The dressing will stay good in the fridge for 4-5 days but will thicken over time, so you may need to add in more water.

Thoughts On Low Sodium Ranch Dressing

  • Cindy

Hi, I just got home from the grocery and I am excited to try this recipe. Im currently doing the DASH diet watching my sodium intake but my question is this when calculating the fat content should I add the fat, saturated fat and cholesterol for a total of 9g? Im inputting this into my tracker. Thank you.

  • Your sour cream, buttermilk, yogurt and mayo all have sodium. It lookLike this would be more than 80 mg per serving.

  • May 29, 2021 at 10:51 AM

Hi Bob! Yep, there are small amounts of sodium in those ingredients. However, with the portion size, the sodium does end up being very low! I take great care to make sure the nutrition analysis is accurate on all of my recipes

  • I really love the Ranch recipe and I dont miss the extra salt at all the herbs make up for that.Really delicious.

  • How long do you think this will last in the fridge? Thanks!

  • How can this recipe for low sodium ranch dressing be low in sodiumwhen you put 1/4 teaspoon of salt in it and that equals 575 mg of sodium?

  • Hi Sylvia! This recipe makes about 20 servings . So, they 1/4 teaspoon of salt is spread out QUITE a bit. Each serving only has around 80mg of sodium, which is about 1/2 the salt in most bottled Ranch dressings. Of course, you could absolutely leave out the salt, but I find it really helps bring out the other flavors and, at 80mg sodium per servings, is still TOTALLY do-able for a low sodium diet!
