Quick Maple Dijon Mustard Salad Dressing Recipe

This Mediterranean tuna salad will keep well in the fridge, stored in tight-lid glass container, for about 2 days or so.

If you’re looking to try and make it ahead, you can chop the vegetables and fresh herbs etc. and store them in the fridge in separate containers. When you are ready to serve, add the tuna and chopped items in one large mixing bowl and combine with the dressing.

Does The Type Of Mustard Make A Difference

I sure think so! Regular mustard, like Frenchs Mustard, is brighter yellow in color and has a mild, almost slightly sour or vinegar taste.

Dijon mustard is more muted in color but has a stronger, more spicy flavor and typically uses higher quality ingredients. Its traditionally made from grinding mustard seeds, rather than using dried mustard , giving it slightly more texture as well.

I use this Organicville brand of Dijon Mustard as its gluten-free and uses organic ingredients. If youre doing a Whole30, its also Whole30 compliant.

How To Make The Best Cucumber Salad

The secret to this cucumber salad recipe is salting the cucumbers. The salt makes the cucumbers taste better and get rid of excess water, which can dilute the dressing.

You see, cucumbers are made mostly of water. By salting them, we draw out excess water before tossing with the dressing. Weve done this in other recipes remember our mayonnaise-free coleslaw salad and this creamy cucumber salad made with Greek yogurt?

Salting the cucumbers makes the dressing tasty, not watered down. It also makes the cucumbers taste more like cucumbers. It intensifies their flavor. The salting process takes about 30 minutes and is well worth it.

Heres how we do it: Slice cucumbers into thin coins we use our mandoline slicer, but a knife works, too. Toss the cucumber coins with salt then let them sit in a colander we set ours in the sink for 30 minutes.

After 30 minutes, rinse the cucumbers with cold water. Rinsing gets rid of any excess salt so that the salad wont be too salty. Finally, squeeze them dry by adding them to a clean dishcloth and squeezing.

When you have salted, rinsed and squeezed cucumbers, its time to make the salad. The dressing is simple and made with vinegar, mustard, and a little bit of sugar for balance. To finish, add a handful of sliced red onion. Easy! You can enjoy the salad straight away, but it does get better after an hour in the fridge.

How To Serve This Mediterranean Tuna Salad

Dijon Mustard Salad Dressing

When tuna is what’s for dinner, I usually add warm pita pockets and we just turn this tuna salad into loaded pita sandwiches.

But this Mediterranean tuna salad recipe makes a good amount to serve a crowd as a starter as part of a Mezze hour. Just add tomato slices that can act as a carrier, or these crispy homemade pita chips to go along.

How To Make Caesar Salad Dressing

Begin by whisking together the garlic, anchovy paste, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Next, whisk in the mayonnaise, Parmigiano-Reggiano, salt, and pepper. Thats all there is to it.

The dressing will keep well in the fridge for about a week. For a main course Caesar, try pairing this with my Grilled Chicken with Lemon, Garlic & Herbs. Enjoy!

Tips For Making Dijon Vinaigrette

  • If youre making your salad at the same time as the Dijon dressing, try whisking your ingredients together the bottom of the salad bowl. This will leave you with one less dish to clean up.
  • To fix dressing that has separated in the refrigerator, simply give it a good whisk, or shake with it in a mason jar with a tight lid. I like these plastic lids for mason jars. Theyre also great for storing your Dijon vinaigrette.

Make Sure You Pin Dijon Lime Salad Dressing

I personally like the bitter flavors on similarly bitter lettuce, like frisee or radicchio, with a little bit of sweet like cranberry or candied nuts.

PRO TIP: Use fresh lime juice instead of bottled. Citrus juices start to lose potency the moment they are squeezed.

But really, Dijon Lime Salad Dressing tastes fabulous on anything from salad to grilled veggies.

Dijon Lime Salad Dressing can also be used as a marinade for chicken, seafood or beef. For chicken or beef I recommend marinating for 3-4 hours. For seafood youll probably only need an hour or so to impart the same amount of flavor.

Homemade salad dressings are fabulous to make in bulk and then store in an airtight container or salad dressing container. They stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

And if you are like me and just eyeball the recipe, youll never get the same salad dressing twice, making sure you never get bored.

Whats In Dijon Vinaigrette Dressing

French Dijon mustard salad dressing

The most elemental vinaigrette salad dressing is composed of just two things:

  • An acid, typically vinegar or citrus juice that gives the dressing its tangand
  • An emulsifier to thicken the dressing, typically olive oil or a neutral flavored oil like canola, grapeseed, or avocado oil. Avoid heavy peanut oil thats best left for fried chicken.
  • Heres whats in this Dijon vinaigrette:

    • Seasoned or unseasoned rice vinegar , or try another clear vinegar like champagne or white wine vinegar
    • Dijon mustard adds tang and helps thicken the dressing
    • Minced shallots add a bit of heat and spice, and are a signature French influence
    • Extra virgin olive oil
    • Kosher salt and as always, freshly ground black pepper

How Do You Make Dijon Vinaigrette

Start with a vinegar-oil base. I like to do a 2:1 ratio to keep things on the lighter side. A lot of dressings call for a 3:1 ratio, but I really dont think its necessary to use that much oil. You can always add more, so feel free to adjust the ratio to your tastes.

Add your seasoning. Since were making a Dijon vinaigrette, I add a good dollop of Dijon mustard about 2 tablespoons.

Mix your ingredients. There are several ways to do this. The easiest is to give it a good whisk until the oil has been fully incorporated into the remaining ingredients. You can also shake it vigorously in a mason jar or any container with a tight lid.

    Why We Love This Recipe:

A salad dressing can make or break a salad. This is one of my favourites I make it frequently and friends or family often ask for the recipe.

I love the Honey and Dijon Mustard Dressing because it:

    • Is easily made from store cupboard ingredients.
    • Contains all natural ingredients, no unnecessary additives.

    Homemade Caesar Salad Dressing

Mustard Vinaigrette Salad Dressing made with Dijon Mustard ...

My family loves this rich and creamy Caesar salad dressing. Its not overly garlicky or fishy its just right.

Though most people buy Caesar salad dressing in a bottle, homemade is incredibly easy to make and tastes so much better than store-bought. There are many variations but this rich and creamy version is the one my whole family loves. Its not too garlicky and not too fishy its just right.

Unlike authentic Caesar dressings which are made with olive oil and thickened with raw eggs, this one has a mayonnaise base, which means no raw eggs so you dont have to worry about giving it to your kids. And speaking of kids, mine love this dressing so much that theyve learned to make it themselves. They dont even wait for me to make a salad while I cook dinner, they sit at the kitchen table with a big head of romaine and dip the leaves in.

The Key To Making The Perfect Emulsion

An emulsion is when a vinaigrette dressing becomes creamy and all one texture. When youre using olive oil and vinegar, you may notice that they can tend to separate. If you whisk up your emulsion correctly, it will stay creamy as it sits.

Heres what to do to make an emulsion that stays creamy:

    • Use a medium sized bowl. Believe it or not, weve had issues using too small of a bowl when whisking a dressing. You need enough room that the whisk can move vigorously back and forth.
    • Whisk the olive oil in 1 tablespoon at a time. The gradual adding of olive oil is what allows the oil to seamlessly integrate. You can also drizzle it in gradually, but we find it easier to add 1 tablespoon and then whisk, then add another and whisk again.

How To Make Lemon Dijon Dressing

    • Use a blender or a food processor to make this dressing.
    • Combine lemon juice, vinegar, garlic, and mustard in the blender and blend until smooth. I used a combination of Dijon Mustard and Whole Grain Mustard but you could change it up for if you like and use all of one or the other.
    • With motor running on low, pour in olive oil and canola oil.
    • Season with salt and pepper.
    • Refrigerate dressing until ready to use.

    Tips For Success And Faqs:

For the best salad dressing, use good quality ingredients. I like to use extra virgin olive oil for its nutritional benefits and flavour.

What is the best apple cider vinegar to use?

To obtain the best nutritional benefits, choose raw, unfiltered vinegar.

How should I store the Honey and Dijon Mustard Salad Dressing?

Store it in the fridge in a mason jar or bottle for up to two weeks. Shake or stir well before use.

Why has the oil in the salad dressing solidified?

Over time in the fridge, the olive oil will become cloudy and eventually solidify. This in no way affects the quality. Just remove the dressing from the fridge for a short time to allow it to come to room temperature. If you need to use the dressing and you havent remembered to do that, just place the jar in a bowl of warm water for a few minutes.

Should I season the salad dressing?

I have not listed salt and pepper as ingredients for the dressing. My personal preference is to season the salad, not the dressing. As an example, one salad may have saltier ingredients than another, and that way I can control the amount of seasoning I add. If it is already in the dressing, I am unable to do this.

Tips To Make 3 Minute Lemon Dijon Vinaigrette

    Homemade Honey Dijon Dressing
    • A blender or immersion blender works best to get this emulsified so its super creamy.
    • I used apple cider vinegar as I like the kick it gives but you can sub your fave vinegar.
    • We like extra light olive oil. It is my favorite for salad dressings but you can use what you have on hand. Even a light vegetable oil or canola will work.
