Can You Use Lemon Juice Instead Of Apple Cider Vinegar

Yes, you can of course use lemon juice in place of the apple cider vinegar for this vinaigrette if you’d like. In fact, some people say that apple cider vinegar isn’t the best choice for a dressing of this type since it might be too strong.

Personally, I love stronger salad dressings. If you don’t, then by all means make this with lemon juice instead. But I like my Honey Mustard Vinaigrette with a real tang and the combination of the Apple Cider Vinegar with the Dijon Mustard just does it for me.

Is This Vinaigrette Vegan What About Gluten

Yes! This honey mustard dressing is 100% gluten-free! Whether or not its vegan is a more complex question to answer. In the end, it comes down to your personal preferences and beliefs. Some vegans believe honey should be off-limits however, others think its okay because it comes from an insect and not an animal.

If you decide to leave out the honey, you can use another natural sweetener in its place. Agave syrup and maple syrup are both excellent substitutes.

Lemon Honey Mustard Vinaigrette

A bright and zesty lemon vinaigrette is perfect to use as a salad dressing or as a marinade. The dijon mustard adds flavor and zippiness and theres a bit of sweetness from the honey.

Today I am sharing a staple Lemon Honey Mustard Vinaigrette recipe that you can use for so many things. Its our familys go-to vinaigrette for many different salads, such as the Arugula Salad that I am including in this recipe. Its very bright and fresh with the lemon juice and zest being the most important character and the honey gives it a bit of sweetness. The dijon mustard not only adds flavor and bit of a zippiness, but it also helps to emulsify the vinaigrette to create that perfect creamy texture, not the broken dressing that we sometimes see with the oil floating on top and the rest of the ingredients swimming below.

    ACV to the rescue!

Apple cider vinegar is alkalizing to your body, aids digestion, and has a nice, mild flavor. Sure, you can use any white or red wine vinegar here, too, but if you have it I think apple cider vinegar is the way to go here. Look for raw apple cider vinegar it will be on a room temp shelf when you buy it, refrigerate it after opening to preserve the enzymes. I like Bragg’s brand.

If you don’t have apple cider vinegar you can use white wine vinegar or plain distilled vinegar.

Tips And Tricks For Making Honey Mustard Vinaigrette

    • This recipe was written using a coarse stone ground mustard, but you can also use dijon mustard or honey mustard, too. Adjust the honey accordingly. I dont suggest using a regular yellow mustard, the taste is a little too sharp and harsh for my liking.
    • Instead of apple cider vinegar, you can also use white wine vinegar in its place.
    • Other oils work in this recipe in place of olive oil, including avocado oil, safflower oil, and canola oil.
    • Taste the dressing before tossing with your salad and adjust the seasonings. If you want it more tangy, add more apple cider vinegar. If its too tangy, add a little bit more stone ground mustard or olive oil.
    • When tasting the vinaigrette, remember its supposed to be full of flavor because your salad is not yet seasoned. Dont taste it alone, instead taste it with a piece of lettuce, cucumber, tomato, etc. to see how it tastes!

    Ingredient #: Natural Honey

Choose natural or raw honey for your dressing if you can as it will still contain enzymes and be lower on the glycemic index.

Mass-produced honey is heated and processed, which destroys its enzymes and nutrients and makes it higher on the glycemic index. Local honey is a bonus as it will contain some local pollen, which can help with seasonal allergies. Just do your best and find the least refined honey that you can buy. Honey from different regions will taste different, find one that you like.

This better-than-storebought dressing uses real healthy ingredients to feel good about what you are eating. Heres what you will need:

    • Mustard plays a significant role. We prefer to use creamy Dijon mustard for this, but whole grain or even regular yellow mustard will work in its place. We combine Dijon and yellow mustard to make our creamy honey mustard dipping sauce.
    • Honey balances the tanginess of the mustard. We love using local raw honey.
    • Apple cider vinegar marries the mustard and honey and turns this into a show-stopping salad dressing. When buying apple cider vinegar, we look for the bottles with the mother still in the bottle , since they have more flavor. Other kinds of vinegar can work here , but we prefer apple cider vinegar for its taste.
    • Olive oil makes the dressing silky and luxurious. It also adds flavor.
    • Fresh lemon juice is optional but highly recommended. It makes the dressing pop. I like to add the juice from one or two lemon wedges.
    • Salt and fresh ground black pepper are a must.

We find that this dressing is creamy enough and does not need any additional ingredients. It is amazing what happens when you whisk the mustard with olive oil and vinegar.

Honey Dijon Vinaigrette. Pair this delicious homemade honey mustard dressing with your favorite salad! We love ours over baby spinach with dried cranberries, sliced almonds, and crumbled feta. Delicious!

When it comes to dressings, I like to be thoroughly assaulted by flavor. Not quite a sucker punch to the taste buds, but pretty darn close.

In order for me to deem a dressing appropriate, it needs to be a little bit sweet, a little bit salty, and enhance any and all veggies I pair it with without overpowering their natural deliciousness. Its not asking too much.

My past arsenal includes a creamy curry dressing worthy of slathering on everything from salads to rice bowls, a greek vinaigrette that is utterly magical over bell peppers and chickpeas, and a refreshing yet fiery sriracha ranch that takes fish tacos to the next level and then some!

    Flavorful dressings FTW!

This zesty vinaigrette rocks our socks!

I even make a chipotle honey mustard dip thats awesome for spreading on veggie burgers and dipping fries in!

Use Shallots In Your Homemade Vinaigrette

Can we talk about the flavors in this salad dressing a bit? In my opinion, the shallot is KEY to this honey mustard dressing. The shallot provides such great flavor to this tangy honey mustard salad dressing and is not to be skipped.

You can typically find shallots right by the onions in the produce section of your grocery store. If you havent cooked with shallot before, youre in for a treat! They look a little bit like garlic bulbs, but theyre part of the onion family.

They have a milder taste than yellow or red onions, which is why theyre great served raw. You wont get that overpowering onion taste in this dressing from the shallot. So even if you dislike onions, I encourage you to try shallots in this recipe!
