How To Make The BEST Tuna Salad Sandwich: Easy Delicious Tuna Fish Recipe

Im strictly a mayo kind of gal, but if you prefer Miracle Whip or light mayo, go for it. Ive never tried it with yogurt, but Greek yogurt might work, especially if you add a little lemon juice, salt, and pepper.

To toast or not, its up to you if you’re turning this into a sandwich. Sometimes, Im in a toasty mood and crave a little crunch, and sometimes I just want the comfort of soft bread.

No bread in the house? My better half always prefers tuna salad on saltines, but you could make some of these biscuits or homemade soda bread.

How To Make Broccoli Rice

After testing a few ways to make this, I find that using a food processor creates the best texture. It becomes light and fluffy, resembling grains of rice.

  • Slice the broccoli head into small florets.
  • Trim the woody parts of the stalk using a Y-peeler. Then chop it into 1 inch pieces. Make sure to do this as you dont want chunky or mushy bits.
  • Pulse the broccoli in a food processor until it becomes rice-sized bits.
  • But if you dont have a food processor, using a blender or knife works just fine.

    • Blender Method: Cut the broccoli into small pieces and place in the Vitamix. Then pulse until it resembles grains of rice. Scrape down the sides along the way to make sure everything is blended.
    • Knife Method: Simply chopping the broccoli into small grains will do the trick. Just note that this step will take a bit longer.

    Healthy Tuna Pasta Salad: Overview

Just like the classic, this macaroni salad is incredibly simple to prepare and will still leave you with that familiar, comforting feeling! However, theres no soft, mushy pasta, overly sweet, thick shellac of mayonnaise dressing, stale flavor or unpleasant metallic aftertaste! This version is all about bright, fresh flavors, spot-on textures, and a lightened-up, flavorful creamy dressing.

This macaroni salad features tender and pleasantly chewy pasta, flaky tuna, crunchy celery, delicate green onions, sweet peas, pungent red onions, herbaceous fresh herbs and savory, salty parmesan cheese. The whole thing gets generously drizzled and tossed with a tangy, slightly sweet, impossibly creamy yogurt dressing. The end result? A complex, incredibly delicious tuna salad that is downright addictive!

Using Sugar To As An Ingredient To Cook Fish Is Not New

    Asian Tuna Salad Recipe

The original idea was proposed by Cook’s Country, by way of a HuffPost Taste editor who decided that the idea of adding a half teaspoon of sugar for every three, 5 ounce cans of tuna white tuna in water was worth a shot. The hack actually improves the tuna because the sweetness makes the canned fish taste less fishy . Otherwise, doing nothing to the canned tuna leaves it tasting less than stellar.

In any case, using sugar to make a savory dish tastier isn’t a new idea. Asian cooks are big on using sweet ingredients like honey or sugar to add a flavour component to their dishes. Filipino grilled tuna jaw is marinated in a teriyaki-inspired sauce, which features brown sugar as a key ingredient sugar is also listed as an ingredient in a sweet and sour style fish known as escabeche.

Adding sugar isn’t the only thing you can do to make tuna salad taste less fishy. Some add grapes , others add pickle relish, both of which have sweet overtones. These ingredients could also achieve what sugar in your tuna salad sets out to do, which is to raise the ingredient’s profile from emergency pantry staple to a must-have.

What Kind Of Tuna To Use

Tuna can be a wonderful, low-cost protein option. It is also nutrient-rich, containing essential vitamins, minerals, and omega-3 fatty acids. There are a couple kinds of tuna out there, like white albacore and chunk light. Some are packed in olive oil, while others are packed in water.

I try to use wild-caught Yellowfin or Albacore tuna as much as possible. And if youre concerned about the fat content, your best bet will be tuna packed in water instead of olive oil. Ive used both in the past, but I now prefer to use tuna packed in water and then add my own extra virgin olive oil so I can control the flavor and the amount used.Mercury levels in tuna can be a health concern, which is why my family eats it no more than once every two weeks.

How we make Tuna Salad, Best Old Fashioned Southern Cooking
  • Now, I do make mine a little different. I think tuna always needs some dill pickles to cut the richness of the fish itself, not to mention in a mayo-based salad you definitely need the acid in there.
  • I also have another secret to this salads success and this is a family trick for sure- use half mayo and half whipped salad dressing. The tuna needs the tangy dressing, absolutely. While I am usually a mayo purist, in this salad, whipped salad dressing is the only way to go. Well, at least for half of it!
  • You can customize the salad any way you like, from adding olives which is the ultimate retro tuna salad!- which also add that acidity to cut through the richness. I added a lot of green onions since I love them, around 2 stalks of celery because I wanted a lot of crunchthe possibilities are endless. Mix, match and customize until you have a salad that you love!
