Whats The Best Way To Make Homemade Salad Dressing

Creamy Apple Cider Vinegar Salad Dressing

Honestly my favourite way is to toss all of the ingredients into a mason jar and shake it up. Its super easy and youll end up with a perfect dressing every time. Plus you can store the dressing in the mason jar in the fridge.

This dressing will last about a week in the fridge, make sure that you shake it up before serving. I also find that sometimes the oil may congeal a bit in the fridge, so you may need to leave it out at room temperature for a few minutes before serving.

What salad does this vinaigrette work for?

This salad dressing recipe works well with all kinds of salads but my go-to salad for this is a fall salad with arugula, apples and walnuts. Ill also add some kind of cheese, either a blue cheese or shards of parmesan cheese. Id also use this on an autumn chopped salad.

S To Make Apple Cider Vinegar Dressing

1. ingredients for dressing
2. combine shallot and olive oil in blending jar
3. add apple cider vinegar, Dijon, honey, salt and pepper
4. puree until smooth with an immersion blender. Alternatively use blender or mini-prep
  • Assemble your ingredients and decide how youll be blending the dressing. My step-by-step photos above show me making this with an immersion blender, but you can do this with your mini-prep or a blender too. Or if you dont have any of those, you can always whisk it by hand.
  • Peel and cut the shallot into quarters. Pop that right into the blender or blending jar. Then add in the oil. Note: if youre whisking this by hand, youll want to wait and add the oil after youve whisked everything else together.
  • Add in the apple cider vinegar, Dijon, honey and salt and pepper.
  • Puree it until it is smooth. Enjoy tossed with your favorite salad like this Spinach Salad or My Easy Garden Salad to name a couple.

What Is Apple Cider Vinaigrette Made Of

We’re taking the building blocks of vinaigrette dressing and adding some sweet elements, keeping the whole process very simple.

    • apple cider vinegar
    • apple cider
    • maple syrup

You can use raw apple cider vinegar. Both work great. Raw apple cider vinegar tends to be a little darker in color so the color of the dressing will be slightly darker brown but not much.

Do you have to add the maple syrup?

Of course not, you do you friend! In my opinion, it adds just enough sweet, fall flavor without being overpowering but if you’re looking for a more savory dressing you can omit it.

You can also substitute honey for maple syrup.

Does it have to be dijon mustard?

Yes! It’s more about getting the right tangy spice and yellow mustard just doesn’t compare. Its a mild flavor so you shouldn’t worry about the dressing being ‘spicy’ but it does balance out the flavors.

Can you make apple cider vinaigrette without the dijon mustard?

It will take out some of the savory/tangy flavor, but if you need to leave it out for dietary reasons it is still delicious without it!

Raw Unfiltered Cider Vinegar Vs Filtered

    • It seems boutique unfiltered cider vinegar from smaller producers has been popping up everywhere lately. For years now I have been buying it in small quantities from Shelburne Orchards. But now I am seeing a whole new crop of locally produced boutique apple cider vinegars on the shelves. One of the most common nationally available brands is Braggs.
    • The difference between the cloudy unfiltered vinegars and the clear commercially produced vinegar, is the former isnt heat treated or pasteurized and filtered. That means raw unfiltered vinegar has active enzymes from the fermentation process.
    • Another difference between the two is that in the initial fermentation phase commercial processors add yeast, whereas smaller micro-batch producers use natural airborn yeasts.

How To Make Honey Mustard Dressing

This creamy honey mustard dressing is incredibly simple to make and you probably already have everything you need to make it in your kitchen.

This better-than-storebought dressing uses real healthy ingredients so you can feel good about what you are eating. Heres what you will need:

    • Mustard plays a major role. We prefer to use creamy Dijon mustard for this, but whole grain or even regular yellow mustard will work in its place.
    • Honey balances the tanginess of the mustard. We love using local raw honey.
    • Apple cider vinegar marries the mustard and honey and turns this into a show-stopping salad dressing. When buying apple cider vinegar, we look for the bottles with the mother still in the bottle , since they have more flavor. Other kinds of vinegar can work here , but we prefer apple cider vinegar for its flavor.
    • Olive oil makes the dressing silky and luxurious. It also adds flavor.
    • Fresh lemon juice is optional but highly recommended. It makes the dressing pop. I like to add the juice from one or two lemon wedges.
    • Salt and fresh ground black pepper are a must.

We find that this dressing is creamy enough and does not need any additional ingredients. It amazing what happens when you whisk the mustard with olive oil and vinegar.

Just a few seconds of whisking turns the dressing into a single emulsified mixture. For a thicker or even creamier dressing whisk in a little sour cream or plain yogurt.

    Raw Apple Cider Vinaigrette

Apple Cider Vinegar Salad Dressing Recipe Eatwell101

We all know that the key to a tasty salad is a delicious salad dressing.

I usually prepare my salad dressings in my trusty blender, but since thats been out of commission for the past couple of weeks, Ive had to get a little more creative. This recipe requires no fancy equipment> just a glass mason jar, or other sealed container, for shaking!

Raw apple cider vinegar has been associated with a variety of health benefits, including the possibility of lowering glucose levels and relieving gas, bloating and heartburn. While most vinegars are acidic in the body, raw apple cider vinegar is actually thought to have an alkalizing effect similar to lemons or limes, which also taste acidic but leave an alkaline ash in the body.

When shopping for apple cider vinegar, make sure you select a variety that is labeled as With the Mother and has a bit of sediment floating around the bottom of the bottle. This odd-looking sediment is actually raw enzymes and gut-friendly bacteria that are thought to promote healing.

Paired with raw honey and fresh garlic, this dressing is sure to liven up any salad and might even have your family craving their veggies!

    How To Make The Dressing

There’s two ways to make this dressing. Both of them are very very easy.

You can make an emulsified dressing – that means the oil and water based ingredients like vinegar are blended together so they don’t separate. This method also thickens the dressing a little bit and requires an immersion blender.

Or you can make a simple whisked dressing by whisking the ingredients together. For this method you can also just throw all your ingredients in a mason jar, cover tightly, and shake it.

All of these methods work great and taste great and I personally flip flop between all of them depending on my mood and time, so here are a few tips:

    • If using an immersion blender you can just rough chop the garlic then just give the ingredients a few short pulses with the blender to chop them.
    • Slowly pour in the olive oil wether using an immersion blender or a whisk to help incorporate it with the vinegar and cider.
    • If whisking or shaking the ingredients together, make sure the garlic is finely chopped.

This healthy homemade salad dressing recipe comes together in a pinch and it can last in the refrigerator for up to a week. If you dont add garlic to it, it can last up to 2 weeks.

  • Add all of the ingredients to a mason jar.
  • Seal the lid tightly and give a good shake.
  • Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  • Store the apple cider vinaigrette dressing in the refrigerator.
  • You can also add the ingredients to a blender and blend until creamy. Or simply whisk all of the ingredients together in a bowl.

Apple Cider Vinegar Salad Dressing Ingredients:

Apple Cider Vinaigrette | easy salad dressing recipe!
  • vegetable oil of your choice: even though extra virgin olive oil is a very healthy option, I rarely use it for salad dressings because Im not the biggest fan of its taste. My oil of choice is usually a mixture of two oils: flaxseed oil& avocado oil in a ratio of 1:3. Both oils are incredibly healthy for you and they have a mild taste which I really like. Make sure to store flaxseed oil in a dark and cold place ideally your fridge because the unsatured fats can go rancid pretty quickly.
  • apple cider vinegar: Apple cider vinegar is linked to a lot of health benefits, most of which are associated with the active ingredient acetic acid. There are some wild claims out there regarding apple cider vinegar and while there are some studies suggesting it is very beneficial to your health one tbsp of apple cider vinegar wont cure all your problems. One of the most potent effects of consuming apple cider vinegar before a meal or with a meal is an increased sense of fullness, which can aid in weight and fat loss.
  • erythritol: in my opinion, the best keto-friendly sweetener. It has no impact on your blood sugar at all and provides a very pleasant sweetness. But: other keto-friendly sweeteners that dont spike your blood sugar are fine as well!

Apple Cider Vinegar Salad Dressing Recipe Eatwell101

I make dressing so often that I don’t measure anymore. I start off with the essentials: oil and vinegar. I always do more extra virgin olive oil than vinegar.

Then I add a squirt of Dijon mustard, a couple chopped garlic cloves, a glug of maple syrup, and plenty of salt and pepper. Sometimes I’ll add fresh basil or dried oregano if I want a Mediterranean flair.

Sometimes I’ll nail it on the first try and sometimes I blend and then add more to taste.

Speaking of blending, I highly recommend using a blender because it makes the dressing super creamy and emulsified in a way that whisking doesn’t.

You can also put it in a jar and shake it!

Oils winterize or solidify in the fridge, so don’t fret if your dressing is thicker once refrigerated. Simply let it come to room temp or even throw it in the microwave for a few seconds.
