Typically Key West Tuna Pasta Salad is just like this recipe. But, they use mayo and yogurt. I have skipped both the ingredients for my tuna pasta salad recipe.

In case you want to add mayonnaise and yogurt, you can add them to your salad.

But, make sure you use low fat mayonnaise and thick greek yogurt.

How Long Does Tuna Salad Last

Tuna fish salad is a great make-ahead lunch because it will keep in the fridge for a few days. Because it has seafood and mayonnaise in it, be careful to not leave it out on the counter for too long.

Once youve made your sandwich, put it back in the refrigerator in an airtight container to keep it as fresh as possible.

Healthier Tuna Salad Recipe

Swapping out the high fat and calories of traditional mayo is a healthier way to make this easy lunch recipe. When you combine the creaminess of the avocado and just a few tablespoons of Greek yogurt, it’s a great substitute. This delicious tuna salad is loaded with crunchy vegetables and tons of flavor, no boring tuna salad here!

  • 1 whole tortilla wraps Garden Spinach Mission Tortilla Wraps brand
  • 1 whole bell pepper Core, clean of seeds, sliced in half.
  • 4 small 7 oz cans of albacore tuna water packed
  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 2 tablespoons dill relish
  • 2 cups celery small dice
  • 1 teaspoon celery salt try my recipe!
  • 1 teaspoon fresh cracked black pepper
  • Remove the pit from the avocado and scoop the avocado halves into a small bowl. Add the Greek yogurt, and press the avocado with a fork to combine yogurt and blend them together. This is your creamy “mayo”.
  • Drain the water from the tuna, place the drained tuna into a medium bowl and break it into smaller pieces of tuna using a fork.
  • Next, add all the ingredients into the bowl: parsley, green onions, capers, kalamata olives, basil, sun-dried tomatoes, pepperoncini’s, dill pickle relish, celery, celery salt, and cracker pepper.
  • Mix using a large spatula and combine tuna with all the ingredients.
  • Scoop Italian Tuna Salad into half a large bell pepper, on lettuce wraps, or spread on a tortilla wrap and roll, and slice. Store leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 5 days.

    How To Make This Tuna Pasta Recipe

  • In a large pot of water, cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente.
  • While the noodles cook, make the dressing. Whisk all the dressing ingredients together and set aide.
  • Drain the pasta and allow it to cool. You can rinse the noodles with cold water if you want to speed up the cooling process.
  • In a large bowl, toss the cooked pasta, tuna fish and the rest of the ingredients together.
  • Pour the lemon yogurt dressing over the pasta salad and toss to combine.
  • Serve immediately or allow to sit for about 30 minutes, covered in the refrigerator so the flavors meld together.

    • Canned Tuna: I use solid white tuna packed in water. Chunk light tuna is also a good option. I prefer tuna that is packed in water and not in oil just because the oil has lots of extra calories. Use your favorite can of tuna and if you choose wild caught tuna even better.

    • Cucumbers: I used seedless English cucumbers. Use whats available and in-season.

    Tuna is a lean source of protein and contains omega-3 fatty acids. But you definitely shouldnt eat it everyday. As a large ocean fish, its a repository for mercury.

    According to the Environmental Defense Fund, several species of the fish contain higher-than-average amounts of mercury. Mercury is a highly toxic substance that can cause both chronic and acute poisoning.

    If you have children, definitely dont send them to school everyday with tuna sandwiches. Kids have more sensitive nervous systems. Plus, their organs are still developing, which makes them more vulnerable to mercurys negative side effects.

    Are you very concerned about mercury? Then keep in mind, cans of tuna come in two main varieties.

    Chunk light is the first. The second is solid tuna . Solid/chunk white is albacore tuna.
