- Water Lukewarm water to whisk into the vinegar easily.
- Garlic Freshly minced.
- Salt and pepper To taste.
- Italian seasonings Optional, but adds a lovely subtle flavor.
How Long Can You Store Them
These homemade salad dressing will last for two months in the refrigerator. That means you can always have a few on hand. Just as you would buy a few varieties at the store, make several flavors and rotate to keep your salads fresh.
If you use just oil and vinegar in your dressing, it will be shelf stable. The vinegar is acidic enough to keep it fresh. However, if there are any fresh ingredients like garlic, dairy products or fresh herbs, it should be refrigerated.

Ingredients And Common Substitutions:
- BALSAMIC VINEGAR: Substitute white vinegar, apple cider vinegar, or red vinegar. I do not use the most expensive balsamic vinegar for this dressing. I save that for occasions where the balsamic can shine on its own.
- LIGHT SOY SAUCE: In place of light soy sauce, use coconut aminos or regular soy sauce. Skip the salt called for in the recipe if you go with regular soy sauce.
- DIJON MUSTARD: Mustard adds umami to this recipe. Substitute your favorite type of mustard.
- HONEY: Maple syrup makes a flavorful substitute.
- GREEK YOGURT: The calorie count of this recipe is based on fat-free yogurt, but use your favorite type or whatever you have on hand. If you only have regular yogurt, that will work, too. However, the consistency will be a little thinner.
- OLIVE OIL: My first choice is extra-virgin olive oil. But any oil you have on hand is acceptable as long as its fresh. Thats important for the best flavor.
- SALT: The soy sauce has some salt to taste the dressing before adding any salt to see if you want more.
Incidentally, a serving of salad dressing is usually two tablespoons. Going overboard is easy. Whenever Im being obsessive and measuring it out well, two tablespoons is rarely enough. Just sayin.
Why We Love This Greek Yogurt Ranch Dressing Recipe
Given that I have shared quite a few ranch recipes over the years, from my Healthy Ranch Dip, my Maple Ranch Dressing and my Horseradish Ranch Dressing, I knew I better share my healthy classic ranch recipe with you. I have finally put the finishing touches on it and I have to say, it came out so well!
As the title suggests this recipe is made with Greek yogurt, which is how we can get away with much less mayonnaise than a typical homemade ranch dressing. But unlike a lot of other recipes for Greek Yogurt Ranch, this one is unique in that it has both buttermilk and buttermilk powder added to it for authentic farmhouse-style ranch flavor.

You can make your own sugar-free salad dressing at home if you want to try it out. One good mix is lemon juice and olive oil. This is super basic, but it goes with just about any salad.
You could also try a Greek yogurt dressing, with some herbs and minced garlic, or a balsamic vinegar dressing, which is once again basic, but very tasty and perfect for a wide range of different salads and sides that need an extra kick of flavor.
How To Make This Greek Yogurt Ranch Dressing
While I am a fan of blending dressings with a blender, immersion blender or mini-prep food processor, we loved the more rustic texture of the ranch dressing when it was whisked together by hand.
Simply combine all the ingredients in a bowl and whisk them until they are completely combined. Make sure that if you are using granulated sugar that they are dissolved and that the buttermilk powder is not clumpy.

Healthy Homemade Greek Salad Dressing
This classic Greek Salad Dressing is inspired by the salad at my favorite Greek restaurant. It’s made with zesty lemons and familiar greek style herbs like oregano. It has a slightly higher vinegar to olive oil ratio making it a bit lighter in taste and calories. It goes great on everything from a classic greek salad to a summer pasta salad. You can also use it as a marinade for fish, vegetables, or meat.

Check The Ingredients And Nutrition Labels
Some low-sodium salad dressings will carry the label of low sodium or less salt. However, this is not always the case. When youre unsure of whether or not its really low-sodium, consider salad dressings that are naturally low in sodium due to their ingredients. Vinaigrettes that contain a base of olive oil or apple cider vinegar are examples.
Dressings made with yogurts, sesame seed oils, and avocado oils can also contain low amounts of sodium. However, the best way to check whether a salad dressing is low-sodium is to look at sodium per serving. A good benchmark is under 250 milligrams per serving.
You can also look at the list of ingredients to see if there is added salt and if these additives appear higher up in the list. Examples include silicon dioxide and tricalcium phosphate.

What Ingredients Do I Need For These Dressings
Below, Im sharing fifteen of my favorite simple, easy, and healthy salad dressing recipes that you can make at home. Honestly, you probably have most of the ingredients to make most of the dressings already in your pantry and fridgethere are no fancy pants ingredients that youll have to track down at a specialty store.
For most salad dressings, youll need:
- Something acidic. Lemon juice, lime juice, balsamic vinegar, red wine vinegar, apple cider vinegar, or white wine vinegar are all good choices.
- Some fat. Oil is a standard ingredient in most vinaigrette-style dressings. With a few exceptions , you want a mildly-flavored oil that wont stand out in the dressing. Extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil are my favorites.
- Something sweet. A little sweetness can bring all the flavors together and round out the dressing. Honey is my go-to, but maple syrup, agave, or even a bit of granulated sugar will work as well.
- Salt, pepper, garlic, and other herbs and spices. Salt and pepper will enhance the flavor of the other ingredientsdont skip them where they are called for!
All of these recipes can be made using the jar-and-shake method. Just grab a jar with a tight-fitting lid , toss in all the ingredients, and shake the dickens out of it until its well-blended. There are a couple of recipes below that could be made smoother if you use a food processor or a blenderbut you dont have to if youre fine with a chunkier dressing.
